6.5x47 accuracy nodes

Hi chaps,
Well I wanted to try the 140 berger hybrid everyone my way say dont do it waste of time well thats like telling a kid to stay out of the cookie jar so I insisted that I want it throated it was .110 freebore and is very accurate with the 130vld berger target it will hold the xring out to 900 more so with a very good wind reader behind it.
So most velocities I read are in the 2820 to 2860 fps is there a higher node my OAL now is 2.850 touching the lands set with firing pin removed no ejector this is a single shot action and the 140 hybrid berger.
Only have 2208 and 2209 powders cci 450 and cci br4 primers 31inch barrel how far up the charge ladder have you guys gone with the 140hybrid im thinking of starting at 39gr and working up in 3 tenths at a time to say 42.5gr do you think that sounds reasonable.

Cheers Trev.

Don't listen to them ! You need H4350/2209 with the 140's. Somewhere around 40 gr should hit the 2820-2860 node. Don't think you can get much higher w/o over pressure.

Agreed, around 40.0 - 40.5 should be a good node for the 140 hybrids. 2860 maybe on the high side for a speed estimate but every barrel is different. I was at 2820 with 40.5 grains and a 26" barrel.

It seems I was aiming to high with my powder charge best start at 38gr of 2209 my 130vlds run at 2900fps with 40.5gr no hard bolt lift primers are fine.
I will run the 140s with my magneto speed while doing a ladder test and see where I end up im looking forward to seeing how they shoot I have 123 scenars and 136L scenars to try also.

Cheers Trev.

Mine's the same as the others recommended. I'm at 40.0 and getting average 2816 out of a 27.5" barrel with the 140 Hybrids .010 off the lands. COAL 2.790

40.3 grains of H4350 at 0.010" jump on the 140 Hybrids is shooting amazing for my buddy. He is only getting 2770 fps but the groups are so small we can't measure them. Max is around 41.5 grains in his rifle. Its faster but not near the accuracy.

With the 2.850" OAL depending on bullet lot you should be very close to my .198" FB. So the answer is you are running the best option to push them. Mine came in again at 2920 and is even more accurate than my 40.5 load. I have seen several that run the same and only with the max FB. without trashing brass.

This was my thoughts in the back of my mind with that amount of freebore but wasnt sure I will do the usual work up the ladder hope to reach that velocity and maintain accuracy and as you stated no bashing up the brass.

Gday all,
Well I finally got to do velocity and pressure testing with the 140 hybrids and as looking up this post gee how time flies anyway specs are,

140 hybrid mollied
Cci 450
OAL 2.851
CBTO 2.136
5 Thou in the lands.
31 inch barrel
Stiller viper action.
Powder ar2209.
Test rounds started at 38gr up to42.2gr.
These were shot with 4x nk sized brass and fouled barrel with magneto speed chrony.
I found 2 possible nodes in this test no group testing as yet so nothing is for certain.
1st possible node-39.8gr 2779 fps -40.1gr 2779 fps-40.4gr 2785 fps.
2nd possible node-41.6gr 2932 fps -41.9gr 2938 fps-42.2gr 2941 fps.

So I will do group tests soon I hope and report back with some results.

Cheers Trev.

mine likes all bergers but it really shines with 140 berger hybreds. load is 40grs h-4350 and its shoots great out to 1400yds. getting 2860fps out of 28in bbl. I cant believe how long laupa brass lasts in this rifle.
