6.5x47 139-140g load data help

My load for 6.5X47 Lapua using 139 Scenars is 42 gr. Reloader 17. I have a .200" freebore and my COAL is 2.850", this might be a very hot load in your gun if not throated really deep like mine. I have a 28" bbl and the velocity is 2925 fps.

I did some load development yesterday with this combination of components. I got sticky bolt lift at 38.5 grains RL 17. Left ejector mark on the case head at that charge level. I wonder how you guys get 42 grains without blowing up?

Long throat I guess...

Look at statements in bold letters.

Just for a data point, I am using 39.7 of RL17 and 130 Berger VLDs, jammed .005 getting 2850 from a 25 inch #3 Brux, nitrided barrel.

Ditto: Bold and Italicized. ;)

Can you shed some light on that statement ( understanding) and impact pro or con?
"Yes, long throat"

A long throat allows bullet to be seated further out, thus increasing usable case capacity. Works great in a single shot bolt action but not so well in a repeater because of magazine length restrictions.

+1 for Erik's comments about case capacity.

I run a .196 FB, and with the following components:
40gns H4350 equivalent (ADI 2209)
140gn Berger VLD's - jammed 10 thou
32" Krieger
Speed: 2915 fps

I ran hotter, but with no improvement to group size so backed off to 40gns and all sweet!

I finally got my 6.5 up and running and settled on 40.5 gr of h4350 with a 140 hybrid. Just shot a 10 shot group tonight at 600 yards with 1.040 inches of vertical. It was a little breezy with 10-15 mph winds and I didn't have wind flags up so the left and right was like 3.5 inches. If I would have shot the group faster Im sure it would have been a lot less left and right. Took about 3 minutes to shoot the 10 shots. I just kept staring at the tight little cluster of bullet holes on the target through the scope after each shot. ;D

Ryan, F-Class or tactical?

Sorry to jump in this thread and get off subject, but can somebody answer me 1 simply question. Can a standard AICS .308 detachable magazine be used to load and shoot the 6.5-47L? Saying if I have a Rem 700SA chambered in 6.5-47L with a Badger DBM and a few AICS .308 magazines...

Its on my fclass gun. That included 2 fliers also. Without them it was .7 inches of vertical. I haven't gotten my receiver in for my tactical rifle. Im going to be using an action from John Pierce for that gun. Im looking forward to putting that one together. Now I just have to find enough time to work on my own stuff. Had to skip out on a regional match last weekend cause one of our team members is scared to use a barrel I put on for him cause it shoots too good. Apparently it shoots quite a bit better than the last one I put on for him which he set a fclass record of 200 19x at 600 with. He overnighted me a barrel and I installed it for him on Saturday.

Jerod,
Yes it can.

So what's the point of having hummers if he doesn't shoot them?

Here is something you need to learn and say to Bob next time he wants you to skip a shoot to help him out. ;D
“Poor planning on your part does not necessitate an emergency on mine.” -Bob Carter

Hes saving it for really big matches ::) Since Im not getting to shoot as much Im glad hes out there with stuff Ive done for him. I didn't mind not shooting. I got to stay back and introduce my girlfriend to the whole family when I was done with the barrel ;D

WOW, and I've been reading many people have problems getting the 140's to shoot well!
I'm new to this and want to build an F class in 6.5x47 and start shoot at 600 yds. The advise I've been getting is order your own reamer. What would your recommendation be for freebore for a reamer to shoot the 140's.? Would you turn the necks? Thanks appreciate any of your help.

My 6.5x47 Lapua reamer is a .290" neck, .175" freebore and works well with 120-140 gr. bullets.

You have to turn necks with a .290" neck.

Thanks Erik, with a .175 freebore where will the base on the bullet seat in relationship to the neck shoulder junction on the case, using the 140 Berger Hybrid? I do understand different bullets will seat different in the case. With regard to the Berger 140 Hybrids, I was told optimum performance you would like the base of the bullet where the neck starts and not seat lower if possible... I don't have a clue.
With a .290 neck what would be your loaded round/ bushing? Is there a preferred clearance? Thanks JBO

The .175" freebore will put the bearing surface above neck/shoulder junction.
