Hello
I just recently bought a Savage F class in 6.5x284 I am going to mount a Leupold 8.5-25x50 VX3 LRT on it now but will mount a Nightforce 12-42 BR on it when it comes in. I am going to use a Farrel base but do I need a 20 moa or a 0 I will be trying to shoot out to 1000 yrds. thanks

I'll make a comment on Ken Farrell keeping his direct order prices above what the retailers who carry his equipment charge. Good for him, he's not cutting their throats. If you've ever operated a retail business you'll know just how big a deal that is.

If you do decide on Burris Z rings, get the heavier four screw models. I've had the scope slip with the lighter two screw Z rings on a rifle with heavy recoil.

Both my 1000 yd. guns have 35 MOA bases and 12x42 NF's.
One is within 2 clicks of dead on at 200, the other a little more.
If you can test at further ranges, why be worried about a 100 or 200 yard zero? Even if you can't, so what if you print high at 100 yards? It's a F-class gun and a 6.5-284, how much playing are you gonna do at 100? I much prefer to be in the center of the scopes adjustment range at the yardage I shoot.

I used the 20 MOA Ken Farrell mounts on my Savage F Class. I also have a NF 12-42 BR scope sitting in Burris Z Rings. I will warn you that it is easy to confuse exactly which mount you need. I had to send the first one back, I think it had some 'G Force' clamp or something like that. Sorry for the less the accurate verbiage, but the point is that the more plain-jane 20 MOA mount was the correct mount.
In reading the installation instructions, they highly recommended bedding their scope mount to the action. I used JB weld because the instructions mentioned it as an acceptable material. It worked really well. I used neutral shoe polish as a bond release agent on the screws and the action. One easy tap with a plastic mallet was all I needed to remove the mount the next day.
I'm not sure I'd go with 35 MOA mounts since you only need about 25 MOA for a 1000 drop on a 100 yard zero. If you're shooting further than 1k, help yourself to the 35 base.

Enjoy your setup!
