6.5x284 Powder Recommendations

Looking to load 140 ish Bergers to shoot 600-1000 yards. Been using RL 25 for my 130 grain loads but with the uncertainty of availability I want to start with a powder more reliably available.

Shooting a Cooper with 26” 1-8 twist. What is your preference based on experience?

My 1st 1000 yard Benchrest rifle I built was in 6.5-284, & I torched a third of it's barrel life chasing ES.

I finally just bought 6 jugs of H-4831-SC and called it a day.

Every barrel after got the same.

My 6.5x55AI is a smaller cousin. All I use is h4831 long cut. I have read two accounts that h4350 was a touch better.

I shot 6.5x284 in my NRL Hunter rifle this year. I built it on a Defiance XM action, and shot the 153 A-tips.

54.1 grains of H1000 gave me 2860 FPS.

When I had a 6.5×284 it shot tiny groups with 140 v-maxs and H4831sc.

My old barrel liked Sierra 142's with H4350. New barrel I'm shooting B 153.5's and H1000. Gave me the best groups and ES.

H4350 and H4831. If its not happy with one of those, something is wrong.

With a 30" barrel, I tried H 4350 but, found the best velocity and accuracy with H 4831 SC using a Wolf primer. With a shorter barrel, I might try H4350 first.

A lot of love for H4350. It has been a staple in the cartridge for many years. Good velocity n accuracy but it is also known for short bbl life. If u get 1200 rds with that powder count yourself fortunate. Slower powders help with longer bbl life.
