6.5×284 Norma

Yes 2880 is pretty fast. My 260s run the 140s around 2860 for the best performance accuracy combined. The 260 has a little better performance than the Creedmoor does. Not as much as it use to before the newest powders arrived. Either way, the 6.5-284 is an honest 200fps faster round. I've read threads where some guys boasting of speeds close to 3000 fps with their CMs using 140 class bullets. I don't like calling another guy a liar so I'll say this. His brass is toast after one firing and accuracy is probably terrible.

Yep My .260 is running right about the same as yours. 26" Shilen on a Ruger action. Those guys getting crazy speeds are using R26 and they can have it. I don't like that stuff. 26 Doesn't like warm temps or warm barrels and that's all we have around here.

28" Criterion bull barrel 1-8
42.5 h4350
CCI BR primers
Hornady brass ..sorted.. on its fourth firing I anneal every third firing no e swipe no pressure at all still have tight primer pockets.
Extremely accurate took it out yesterday shot it at 830 yards under 3 inches. First group was 2.355" second group 2.729" three shots for the first group four shots for the second group.
I agree that is extremely fast according to all the published data. But I've had a stock Savage Model 12 and 42gr h4350 got 2850 m.v. also extremely accurate. I can only imagine if I would use Lapua brass.
Robo1 load is 43.0 h4350 140 eldm

H4350 is definitely the "Go to" powder for the 6.5 CM. I hear all about the others and most recently the RE26 but IMO nothing beats the H4350 for the Creedmoor. Plenty fast but very consistent and the one of the most accurate ones out there. Reloader 26 is another option and seems to be one of if not the fastest of all for the CM.

Spend your money on ammo and stick with the Creedmoor. I am going to sell my unfired 6.2x284 Blaser barrel and stick with my 6.5x55SE.

I definitely wouldn't replace it before it's ready to replace. Once shot out, that's another story.

Several barrel makers have written about setting back barrels with throats erosion by 1-1.5" and rechambering them. The lands and grooves are usually capable of double the life of the Chamber area. Gives most barrels an additional 50-60% more accurate shots.

Yep I've set back a few with great results

The rifle still shoots fine. I'm building a complete new build can't decide what caliber yet.
I do think its worth going up into the 6.5-284 cartridge if your doing another build. It's no different than going from a 7-08 to a 284 win. It's a decent upgrade. One possibly worth doing if your planning on shooting the newest heavier 150/156 bullets for sure.
