Help me pick a 6.5

Just for conversation sake would you pick the 6.5 Creedmoor over a Dasher for 1000 yards? A buddy of mine shoots a Dasher and is telling me I need to go that way. What’s your opinion on this?
I would myself. Dashers are easy to tune and their track record speaks for itself. The creedmoor will be competitive no doubt but the dasher will just flat shoot tiny groups. The biggest factor in it all is who reads the wind the best.

I haven’t owned a 6mm or shot one at 1000 yards so was unsure if the 6.5 with heavier bullets would be better at that distance especially with wind ect?

They will with the higher BC bullets. The Dasher will have less recoil. Not sure why everyone thinks the Creedmoor is hard to “tune”. It takes no time at all to find a load for it. Took me literally 15 rounds to find my 153 ATip load.

Their actually going to be real close as far as the wind. The creed with a 140 vs a 108 dasher with the creed going 2800ish vs the 6mm at 2930 their about the same at 600 and at 1k the 108 has a small advantage. I've run the numbers but don't have them in front of me. If you decide to do a 6mm I'm telling you will love it. I have 2 6.5X47s a 260 and a new 260AI Which I haven't shot full power loads in just fire forming right now. At the range where I shoot 6s rule pretty much at 600 unfortunately we don't shoot much at 1k much. I've had great luck with my 6.5s but compete 90% of the time with a dasher! If you spin up you a barrel for a dasher I'm sure you will love it their such a pleasure to shoot. Hope I helped you MIKE

I do like the fact I can run heavier bullets in the Creedmoor, but didn’t know if that would trump the X47 and it’s accuracy potential everyone talks about at 1000 yards.
With a well built rifle and good reloading practices for the game you are shooting you will not be able to tell the difference between the 6.5x47 and the Creedmoor except the creed is a a better choice for the 150 class bullet. You have dies already I assume stick with the Creed and brass is easier to find that the 6.5x47 brass.

I haven’t owned one but my buddy has one. I shot a 6BR also and really liked it. Stupid accurate and easy to shoot.
They are both great cartridges and both equally capable for your game, I would give the edge to the Creedmoor only because its a little easier to see the hits on steel if its being scored by a spotter, but both will work just fine.

Probably doesn't help you much.

I recently decided to build a 1000yd rifle. Started doing some research and decided to go with a 6.5 Creedmoor. The only experience I have with one is shooting a Scar 17S DMR and a Ruger American that my son-in-law uses for hunting. He has a die set and once fired brass litters the ground at one of our local ranges.

I ordered a Bartlein 29" Heavy Varmint 5R blank and will have a local smith put it into a Rem 700 SA I have laying around. I also have a MDT ACC Premier chassis with nothing in it so I'll use this for my stock. My plan is to have the barrel blank finished as long as possible and when finished I'm thinking the complete rifle will weigh over 30lbs....can't wait to try it out.

Keep us posted on how your build goes.

Thanks
