6.5x284 Lapua brass users....

I read in an article that some suggest not to deburr the flash holes or uniform the primer pockets on Lapua brass. I can't remember if this was just for the 6mm BR crowd or all Lapua brass chamberings. What is the usual preps, besides the neck turning I already do?

I just prepped 500 cases for my new build the same as I did my last. I basically used this article as a guide, although not exactly the same order.

http://www.chuckhawks.com/preparing_competition_brass.htm

1). First thing I do is uniform the pockets. I have the bit set at 0.132", so it barely touches them at all.... ~75% of the pocket gets cleaned. I like to do the pockets first before the brass is slicked up by sizing wax and befor I trim/chamfer, debur, so the mouth doesn't slice my hand open when doing the pockets..... I don't touch the flash hole.

2). Next is full body size only.

3). Expand necks. I always do this befire trimming to get a true neck to trim.

4). Trim, chamfer, debur on the Giraud.

5). Turn necks

6). Neck size.

Happy loading!!

I debur every piece of brass I've loaded. Winchester, Remington, Federal, Norma, Nosler, and even Lapua. Some brass is worse than other when it comes to burrs hanging down on inside of the cases. Albeit, Lapua has the least of this issue. Shoot some cartridges both ways (deburred and not), you would be surprised what builds up and around the rough burrs inside. I cant verify that this helps in accuracy, but it is just on the many steps I used to maintain conformity with reloading. Good luck. Scott
