It's not the most temperature stable powder to be honest. This is why VV launched N555 to adress this issue. Much more stable in my experience. How Temp Stable is N550?
Those with Ears, let them hear!According to Quickload, the heat of explosion for N550 is 4050 degrees (the same as Varget). N555 is 3700. That makes N555 a LOT more attractive to me for match-type shooting.
yes it's a hot powder, I found that out quick, must take baby steps, better than staball 65 it got me quick without warning signs, I didn't blow nothing up and it was cold also I'm really glad it happened when it was cool, just super heavy bolt lift but I pulled bullets and took warm temp consideration into the charge, I shoot quit a bit in winter, so there u goThose with Ears, let them hear!
They make more barrels every day.N550 EATS barrels, you have been warned! TWICE!
I use N-550 in my .308 WIN , 6.5X47 LAPUA and 6BR and have not found this to be the case. In regard to temp stability. NO powder is stable at all temperatures due to the many other variables besides ambient temp that can affect it. Do your load development in the temp range you will be shooting in for safety is my advice.N550 EATS barrels, you have been warned! TWICE!
