6.5SAUM and Vihtavuori Powders?

Hi Guys

IT seems that we might be getting our hands on some vihtavuori powders here in dark Africa.....at some point.

Which powder in the vihtavuori range should we be looking at for use in the 6.5mm SAUM with 123gr and 140gr bullets? Barrels will be 26" +

Well let's face it, that cartridge is an extreme overbore. That is going to call for very slow powders. Outside of the ones that are SUPER slow designed for the Barret 50 and Chey-Tac cartridges, there are only a couple VV powders. For the lighter bullets in the 6.5 SAUM, you might try VV N165, for the 140 class bullets, I would opt for either N170 or N570..

The "powder" for the 6.5 4S / SAUM is H1000 so any powder in that burn rate area will work well. There are many 6.5 4S shooters that have 3000 rounds down the tube and are still going strong. Most are running 140 Hybrids at 3000-3050 fps with H1000. H1000 is a cooler burning powder so keep that in mind if barrel life is an issue. With H1000 you can run at this velocity at 58K pressure which will extend barrel life.

Like already stated above...

N-560 is probably the optimum Vihtavouri powder in the 6.5 saum with 140 grainers. N-570 will work too but max charge weight might be a lil compressed, depending on coal.

N-165 & N-160 are also good to go with 140's, but the 560 570 will get you more speed.

N-560, N-165 & N-160 will also work well with 123 grainers.
