6.5cm brass info

I am switching over to 6.5cm.

Does anybody have experience with Alpha munitions or Kinetic brand 6.5cm brass?

I have never heard of either company. Kinetic seems to focus on OEM white label, does Kinetic sell to consumers/direct? Is Alpha making their own brass, or reselling Kinetic, or another manufacturer?

What can you tell me about their products durability, neck thickness uniformity and concentricity?

Can anybody share a high res photo of a sectioned Kinetic, Alpha, or Lapua 6.5cm brass case?

I completed a search and cannot find much on them. My internet skills gave me the following info, NOT my measurements, data from different sources, and I did not write down links in my notes.

Can anybody independently confirm these numbers are correct?

Neck Thickness:

Kinetic .013
Lapua .014
Alpha .015

Brass Weight:

Kinetic 174
Lapua 165
Alpha 174

Water Capacity: don’t know if unfired, or fired

Kinetic 51.3
Lapua 51.3
Alpha 49.8

If the brass is close to Lapua in price and quality, I would prefer to use American made brass.

Thanks

Their 'store' only listed 3 types of brass; .260 Rem @$99/100, 6.5 Creedmoor @ $99/100 and .308 Win. @ $80/100 with all three being sold out.

Partnership Calibers

Apparently, they want to partner up with private reloaders who want their brass bunted with a private company name. In essence, anyone who could foot the bill could have private labeled brass, in significant quantities, of course.

Best.

How are they different? It seems a lot of other people are using the 6.5 cm designation for the the 6.5 Creedmoor.
I think Ringo* is referring to the Competition Match cartridge, commonly abbreviated as 'CM'. It is, however, a 6 CM (.243 Win parent case/30deg shoulder IIRC). Some shooters refer to the 6.5 or 6 Creedmoor as the CM, hence the confusion.

I am one of the founders of Alpha Munitions. We are a new precision rifle brass manufacturer located in Utah. We invested in state of the art equipment and do all our manufacturing in house. We currently offer 6.5 Creedmoor, .260 and .308. We will be launching additional calibers by the end of the year. We started the company to manufacture rifle brass, in the USA, that competes with top tier European companies. We have more information on our website, Facebook and Instagram accounts, including a third party torture test of our 6.5 Creedmoor. If you have any questions please let me know as we are always available to speak.

I checked your website out and it had no information about your brass, just a couple of pictures. Didn't even say if it was large primer or small.

And I do not and will not use Facebook or Instagram.

Don't forget that Peterson Cartridge Company is producing 6.5 Creedmoor brass also:

I spent quite a bit of time speaking with them at their booth at SHOT Show. Nice folks, very helpful.

Graf & Sons has announced that they have the Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass in stock. I'm not a fan of Grafs but if they are the only source, I'm stuck. I'll try to check some of the other suppliers. Hopefully, Powder Valley or Midsouth will get a supply in as well.

Regards.

If you intend to compete with the 6.5 Creedmoor, my advice is to get your hands on the new brass from Lapua with the small rifle primer and smaller flash hole. It is new, expensive and will be difficult to get for a while, but Lapua is the gold standard for most competitive shooters. Until you get some you can use other brass for barrel break in. I have had the best results so far with Nosler, which is also more expensive but cheaper than Norma. I expect longer case life from the Lapua with the high intensity loads I use in F-Open, and it may save money in the long run. Best of luck.

Just got my Lapua 6.5 Creedmoor brass and weight checked 50 cases from the box. I was impressed how close in weight they are. I weighed the 50 cases on an AND FX120i and came up with the following results.
Average weight 165.59 gn, SD .179, ES 1.0. I did have two cases that did push the ES out to 1.0. One case 166.02 and another 165.02. With Hornady I get anywhere from 143gn to 149gn.

Next up, I will check the H2O cases capacity.

Should have ordered more.

Here is water cap. data comparing one 6.5 Creed case converted from Palma brass and a factory Lapua Creedmoor case (both unfired):

Factory- 166.5gr empty 50.68gr water capacity

Converted- 169.5gr empty 49.6gr water capacity

Both cases have 1.910" trimmed lengths

The following info would be helpful.

neck thickness+tol
runout
brass weight in grains+ tol
water capacity in grains
brass hardness at case head

Some marketing/sales thoughts

I suggest you develop a 50pc order SKU. More people would try out your brass at the lower price point. You could get rid of it later once you are established. In addition, your 100 pc and 500 pc SKU has the same price per case. There should be some sort of discount per cartridge case for the larger ordering quantities.

Yesterday afternoon I re-formed 50 .308 Palma (Lapua) cases into 6.5 CM. First pass with a Redding 6.5 CM Body Die, Expand with Sinclair oversized expander mandrel (used for case trimming), Trimmed to 1.910", and neck turned to .014" which gives me minimal clearance in a standard chamber. Brass was EXCEPTIONALLY Straight with TIR of well less than .001".

Using some fine ball powder I found that the capacity of an non fire-formed case to be 7% less than a fired case (neck sized and trimmed). Have a feeling that will close up after fire-forming.

For a $45/100 savings in price, forming from .308 Palma ($74/100) versus buying 6.5 CM Lapua ($119/100) I can certainly live with a modest reduction in case capacity. Brass should last many, many, firings as well.

Yes, it will. My Palma converts were at 50.6gr water after the 8th firing (when I measured them again...I suspect that the vast majority of that was gained after the second firing)

I did some measuring on the Palma cases after reformed. Clearly the body diameter was noticeably smaller than the fired 6.5 CM cases. At first I was worried as I saw a bump on the outside of the shoulder when I "straight edged" the side of the cases. I then double checked by running them through the body die again. The die got it right the first time. I expect this to "blow out" on the first firing :)
