6.5???

From what I've been seening on other forum and so on seem to me the 260 Rem and 260AI are pretty popular now that lapuas gonna be offering brass. You git almost the same ballistics out of a 260 that you do with a 6.5x284 but three times the barrel life. Or you could go with the 6.5x47 Lapua. Either one would be a great caliber.

toby - whatcha gonna use it for - LR prone, F-class, tactical, hunting, etc.?

I started out with a 30" 6.5x55 bbl. for my Palma rifle, shooting it in 600-1000yd. any rifle prone matches, and loved everything about it except the frequency of case trimming (probably due to the amount of case taper the old Swede has). Had a reamer ground for the AI version, and like everything about it except fireforming (there's a drawback to every system...).

Lately, I've been shooting a couple of 6.5x47s (RTS tubegun & BAT 3L prone rifle) in XC & LR prone matches, and have become a staunch fan of the 'little' 6.5 case. I use RL17 to get 2930fps w/Berger 130VLDs & 2820fps w/Berger 140 LRBTs, both very capable of shooting excellent scores at 1000.

So I sorta 'skipped over' the 260 Rem, though I do have a reamer for it. Wonder what I'm missing by not trying the 260? I picked a couple of McMillan A5s out of their 'specials' bin while in Phoenix to shoot the Berger matches in Jan. - one each for M700 SA & LA. Also have both length actions on hand, along with a 28" Bartlein 6.5mm 1:8.5tw. in Rem sendero contour, and M5 BO bottom metal for the SA. I sense another rifle project coming...

My 2cents

If building on a Short action and You want to mag feed -- either a 6.5creedmoor or a 6.5x47Lap.

Me/Myself&I think the 6.5Creedmoor is an OUTSTANDING little feller ( Others will input )

The 260Rem is a great round but when loading LONG 130/140 class pills to feed from a S/A Mag the bullet invades the powder room -- thereby rendering the same capacity a 6.5Creedmoor has when the pills are above the neck shoulder juncton!!!!!!

The 260 260ai 6.5creedmore 6.5x47. they all fill a nitch and are all great rounds. I am going with a 260ai and it should be done in a week or 2.

Hillbilly, which one do you have?

I have a 6x47 Lapua. If I had to choose it would be a coin flip between the 260AI and the 6.5x47 Lapua for a good 6.5 caliber. I do however have my eye on building a 7mm08AI and skipping the 6.5 all together.
