Building a rifle in this caliber and was wondering where to start on load development. It will have a 30" barrel, 294 neck and .160 fb. I have 139, 140, 142 grain bullets, H4350 powder, lapua brass and br4 primers.

What would be the min and max load for these bullets and what speed should one expect to achieve.

H4350 is an excellent powder for the 140 class bullets. However, some faster burning powders can work equally well. Varget, VV N150 and N550 can work superbly. H4350 try 39.6 to 40.2grs. Varget try 36.0 to 37.6, Same with VV N150 and up to 39.0grs with N550. All of these powders are clean burning and temp stable. This of course is IF you are using the NEW (New Label) Viht powders.

I called and talked to a Vihtavuori representative about the new temperature stable formulations, and I was told that there were no temperature stability changes to the powder and the only change is the label in this regard. He said they have always been temperature stable, but this is not my experience.

Right on their "new" label it states "Clean burning" "Lot-to-lot consistency" "Decoppering agent" AND "Temperature Stability"... They always had the first two BUT NEVER had the last two! It certainly is NOT on the "Old" labels! I don't know what he is talking about.

What I'm saying is that the Vihtavouri representative told me that there have been NO changes to improve temperature stability, but since Vihtavouri considers it's powders to be temperature stable it was added to the new label, although I haven't seen any of the VV powders with this new label. The only formulation changes have been to add a decoppering agent and this has been in some powders like N150 since 2015.

Well if he honestly believes that the VV powders have always been as temp-stable as say the NEW RL-Powders, he has got another think coming!

shoot H-4350 39.2 to 39.8 for my bench rifles with 140 grain bullets also 37.5 grains of varget works well, use cci 450 primers, have friends shoot 40.6 with 4350 450 primers also works well, shoots 2760 to 2800 fps
Bert, what kind of velocity are you getting with 37.5 of varget and the cci450's

Take a look at the 123 Scenar for best accuracy. It does give away BC but a higher velocity node is potentially available to make up the loss.

I shoot 140 Bergers pushed by 36.7 Varget at 2820 through my Barlein 26 inch 6.5x47
( YMMV however.) There all touching at 100yds and im goin to give it a whirll out to 1000 in F-open by the beginning of the year
if I get my stuff together.

I will give this load out. It's sub MOA @ 600 as well.

This is 4 rounds @ 100 yards.

It's my favorite F-Class rifle along with my 284.

2740 with the 140s in mine seems to be the sweet spot. 39.5 grains h-4350 in a 26" barrel.

This is also my exact load. Maybe needs a tweak between powder lots but right in there at 39.5-39.8 has been excellent in my 26" Criterion.

My dad is using the Lapua 123’s in his fclass rifle.
Load is 37.7gr of 2208 for around 3000fps

Very easy bullet to load and tune, it does suffer in the wind of course compared to 140gr Berger’s.

I didn't have any luck with H4350 in mine. Switched to Varget 37.3 grains over 130 gr Berger OTM Lapua brass and CCI 450 at 2850 fps with 1:8.5 twist 4 groove Krieger barrel 27 inches.
