6.5 X 47 Lapua Short Range

I am building a 6.5 X 47 Lapua and was wondering if anyone has any experiance with the 85 grain FB Bergers for short range target work (100 & 200 yards). I am tempted to try them but don't find much reference to them and wondered why. Surely this caliber should yield short range accuracy too.

Thanks for your thoughts

I was thinking a flat base bullet might be better for short range but I cant find any except these.

Thanks

I shot the 85's. My gun is setup for the 140's so the jump was long. The accuracy was OK. The 140 Lapua's shoot .250 at 100 and .460 at 200.

cclfn, I have looked for you as I have a 6.5 also! I didn't find any valuable information worth sharing. Like I said earlier, the lightest I have shot out of my gun is 120's

Assuming the throat length and twist is going to be suitable for 140-142 grains, I think your issue is going to be the throat, and the resulting jump. That may more than offset any benefit there is to a flat base lighter bullet. My 6BR can make 0.2" groups with a FB Berger 68, but with a similar designed FB Berger 62, group size jumps by 10 times to 2.0"! I think the only way to know for sure is to try them in your gun and see what happens. About all you can do up front is be sure the throat is no longer than needed for the longest bearing surface bullet that you plan to shoot.
