6.5 WSM Build Question Or has anyone done a 6.5 X 61 S&H

Would you go L/A or S/A if you had the choice? I have a L/A Schultz & Larson that could be re-purposed to this project as well. Thanks in advance & God bless.

Re: 6.5 WSM Build Question

Go long if you plan to shoot the vld's out past the neck shoulder junction.

Re: 6.5 WSM Build Question

+1 on the LA action and VLD's mine is built on a older tang safty 7mag. action

I am building a 6.5-06 Bear ( 35* shoulder ) on the Borden BRL for some LRBR comp. Go long for the 6.5 for sure... 8)

Earlier posters all said it right. Put it in a long action if you want to utilize it's full case capacity potential with high BC vld style bullets.

Only thing I will add is;
If planning on using it as a repeater. Don't forget to have your gunsmith modify your magazine box and feed ramp to get it feeding properly. a WSM case will not feed reliably from a normal magnum style action. It's way too fat. The mag box has to be cut out on both sides to allow the shoulders to catch under the rails. Helps to give the feed ramp a more gradual slope and knock some height off of it too.

Ive got the 6.5 WSM on a short action and have to pull the bolt to eject an unfired 140 VLD. Its not a big deal and a rarely have to do it. Its single shot only tho.
Love this caliber It is a hammer at 1000 yds and does an excellent job on big Midwest deer.
