6.5-284 H-S Precision Detachable Magazine-Help!

hi guys,

I'm new to the forum. I've spent alot of time just reading through the posts here, and I've already learned alot-I'm very impressed.

I'm in the process of having a 6.5-284 tactical Long Range rifle built, but I've got a major concern and question.

The rifle is being built by Mike McIntyre and crew at McIntyre Precision Rifles. It's being built on a Lawton 7000L,long) action with 20MOA picatinny rail, a 28" fluted, hand-lapped, 1/8 twist Lawton barrel, a McMillan A4 stock inletted for an H-S Precision Detachable Magazine for repeater feeding and topped with a Leupold Mark 4 LR/T scope/rings.

My question is this. Has anyone out there built such a rifle using H-S Precision's detachable magazine setup for a repeater configuration? and if so, which H-S Precision DM assembly will feed the 6.5-284 cartridge the most efficiently?

From my research, I see three versions of this detachable magazine setup for the Rem700 long action applications. One is for the 30-06 Springfield,AP209-3), one for the 300 Win Mag,AP209-4)and the other for the 300 Rem Ultra Mag/Lapua Mag. Obviously, the third version doesn't apply, but the first two are both very close.

The main problem right now is that this is holding up my whole project, and I need to figure out which one to get before I can even worry about availability. The 30-06 version is back-ordered for several months no matter who you try to get it from. The 300 Win Mag version, which I had in my hand 2 weeks ago, but sent it back because I was quite sure wouldn't work, is still available in limited quantities. So you can see, I'm trying desperately to figure out what to do. Do I re-order the 300 Win Mag version or just wait for several months for the 30-06 version to come in? It seems the guys at H-S Precision are in no hurry to fill orders that have already been on backorder status for quite some time with Brownells, Midway USA and Impact Guns. My biggest fear is that I'll get the wrong one, and by the time I figure it out, the correct one will then be unavailable and back-ordered for months. I haven't yet gotten a straight answer from anyone, and It's becoming very frustrating. I would sure appreciate any help that anyone can give me. Thanks in advance.

I know you asked about HS Precision but you might look at the Badger Ordnance 300WM DBM kit.
It uses AI 300WM magazines that should feed your 6.5x284 nicely.
It feeds an AI version of 6.5 Rem mag in my rifle and feeds 6.5x55, your 284 should fall between those 2 in dimension.

Also Seekins Precision will be offering DBM kits in the near future that might be useful to you.

1shot1kill, I am no gun bldr. of any type but from looking at the measurements, I don't see why the one you had will not work. Surely some of these guys would be able to verify that. Wish I could offer more. Bill

Either of the H&S L/A DBM will work for your 6.5-284 repeater.
Adjust the feed lips on the mag body & run it.

hey guys,

thanks so much for the feedback. I thought about the Badger Ordnance bottom metal, but my McMillan stock has already been inletted for the H-S Precision setup. I did talk to Neil @ Territorial Supply and they have a good number of the 300 Win Mag version on hand. So, if anyone's looking for one, check 'em out. Very knowledgable people. Neil said the same thing. The 300 Win Mag will work fine-just might have to adjust the magazine lips to fit the cartridge a little bit. Thanks again guys. I appreciate the quick responses. Awesome forum BTW!
