6.5 saum and 155 vlds

Hey guys

Just wondering if anybody has played around with using a bob cauterucio's 155vlds in a 6.5 saum. I just got in a 100 of them to try out in my saum and am looking for a decent place to start working up loads. I plan on using hogden retumbo for powder.

Another powder you might want to try using that bullet is IMR-7828 SSC!

I have spoken with Bob about these for the exact same project, i`m just not sure if i went with enough twist @ 8.5.

I shoot 140 Berger vld hybrid and constantly getting 3244-3236 on speed with H1000

Think Retumbo would be the powder of choice. If that fails H1000. Both burn much cooler than 7828. Worked with a 6.5 WSM and 165 gr bullets. It showed promise, but was set aside for some reason. Used 264 Win Mag load data.

I run moly'd Sierra 155MK's & CRO 147's out of a 30" 1:8.5" twist run 3250+ fps.

I've pushed moly'd Berger 140VLD's @ 3400+ fps.

All velocities verified with an Oehler 35P.

Just spanks a 6.5-284

I've been shooting the 6.5 SAUM in NRA LR Prone matches for over a decade.

I get 6 loads from weighed/prepped/turned Rem brass, then it's delegated to sheep/goat hunting rifle brass.
Neck clearance is .002"
< 1/4MOA
any carbon ring was cleaned/removed with Flitz(german polish),verified with a Gradient Lens bore scope.

The million dollar question Dan, what's the barrel life in match conditions?
I have also been running the 140's at speed, about 3250 fps with room to spare. Norma case life is 5 firings at those speeds.

Barrels are consumables....same as filler rod or electrodes to a welder!!

A Bbl that will not hold <1/2 MOA is relegated to a hunting rifle or tent stake.

I plan for 1500 rounds down a Bbl,less, it is relegated to the above.

No/None/Nada "temperature insensitive" Hodgdon Powders were/are used,ever.

Load work up is in 1/2 grain increments.

6.5 155 Sierra Match Kings?? Can't seem to find these, something new or something old?

Sierra 6.5(.264") 155gr Match Kings have been out of production for over a decade.

So,would I be considered a hoarder because I saw the light & purchased 15+(500) boxes,,,

I know that's what I was thinkin, but with such a long bbl the pressure is building and I am getting that still 😁😁😁

I am getting 11 firings for sure, I tested 3 rounds and fired 11 times each and getting less than .25 Moa as well.. The SAUM IS A COMPLETE DEATROYER IN EVERYASPECT
