This is a pic of a 6 creedmoor next to the new 6.5 that a buddy posted last night.

I heard some rumors of this a few months ago but didn't know anything sure.
I think, as for barrel life, you could expect the same "useable" life as with a 6.5-284 Norma.
I'm really surprised they didn't just go with standardizing the 6.5 4S.
The only thing I will say is that life is hard for a new kid on the block in the ammo biz. We shooters are such a fickle lot.

I'm game for when the 260 barrel goes out. I'd love to have a little more giddy-up in the savage when I swap out. I wonder if it'll feed out of regular 308 AICS mags or if I'll have to massage the lips to feed correctly. What's the eta on release?

Please note that this new cartridge requires a .532 bolt face and you will need a new bolt to replace your 260 barrel with this one. I think this new one is built of the .375 Ruger case but don't hold me to that one.

Yup, takes it out of contention for me...

I like the idea and the case size.
only problem is I just got set up with the
6.5 saum (Gap 4s) and the 6.5x47 lapua.

What I want to know is whats the trim length on it.

Based on the 300 and 338 RCM maybe in the 2.015"-2.100" range.

Brass in May, factory ammo 2018
Case has no rebated rim so .532 body, ~3 grains less capacity than the 6.5 SAUM
I hear roughly in the 2.025" range for case length. 6.5 PRC on left, 6.5 SAUM on right.

The 6.5 PRC has been in the works for about 6 years but got side tracked when George brought out the 6.5 GAP 4-S. It is on the RCM case with about 69 grains of capacity. This makes it a 0.532" rim with a 0.532" head instead of being rebated like the SAUM cases. The design will be an added attraction to Ruger since it is part of their development with Hornady. The naysayers are already having a heyday with this design but it simply gets the juices flowing and more conversation as to the technical information and release dates.;)

Regards.

Seems like Hornady is really good about making cartridges that don't do anything different than many others already on the market. I don't see this doing anything different than a 6.5-284 or even a swede with a long barrel in a modern action. But hey, what do I know, they hit a homerun with the Creed maybe this will do the same.

What most people overt look is the pressure...the PRC will more than likely be 55k psi to get a 140gr bullet to 3000fps, the 6.5-284 requires 62-65k+ psi to get to 3000fps plus a long barrel. Might not seem like much, but it all adds up. That's the beauty of the SAUM, WSM, RCM, low pressure and slow powders and even in a short 24" 3000fps can be had.
