6.5 RCM the Creedmoor's BIG Brother

What most people overt look is the pressure...the PRC will more than likely be 55k psi to get a 140gr bullet to 3000fps, the 6.5-284 requires 62-65k+ psi to get to 3000fps plus a long barrel. Might not seem like much, but it all adds up. That's the beauty of the SAUM, WSM, RCM, low pressure and slow powders and even in a short 24" 3000fps can be had.

Adam
That's what I liked about the 6.5 saum dang I think I need another 6.5 barrel then dies, reamer, headspaces gauge---''--

Hornady had to do this before somebody beat them too it. Or maybe somebody already did. 6.5 cartridges worked up to "Super-Duper" speeds is all the rage, an yes, super-duper is a technical term.

This is nothing new. The 300 Ruger Compact Magnum case was necked down long ago. Hornady fell way behind wildcatters on this one.

There was a guy who did this many years ago and touted it all over the internet. Seemed like every forum that spoke of 6.5mm cartridges, he'd be on there promoting his new cartrdige. Got so sick of hearing about it. Bout drive a person nuts.

Anyhow, he called it the "6.5 Extreme" It is the the 300 RCM necked down to 6.5mm.

Google search "6.5 Extreme" and I'm sure you'll find all of the info on his testing.

It seemed like a good round. Pretty fast and accurate. Falls right in between the 6.5 Remington Magnum and 6.5-284 for speed. Little faster than the 6.5-284, but a little slower than the 6.5 Rem mag.

A person would be a fool to build it on a short action, like that paper says, if you wanna use any sort of high BC bullets. And you sure as hell won't see 2200 round barrel life if you build full throttle loads.

Please note that this new cartridge requires a .532 bolt face and you will need a new bolt to replace your 260 barrel with this one. I think this new one is built of the .375 Ruger case but don't hold me to that one.
it does look like 7LRM (based on .375 Ruger) necked down to 6.5.

Oh larry!

The title says 6.5 RCM the Hornaday literature says 6.5 PRC. Is there more than one or are we talking about the same thing?

Might have a few very slight variances in case dimensions from the RCM, but its the same thing. Hornady just gave it a little different name to act like they came up with it.

Yes the other forum I copied the name from had it wrong. I would change the heading title but for reason can't edit it. After so many posts you can't edit a post in a thread for some reason.

You can easily change/add to the title.
