6.5 PRC & 6.5 Creedmoor questions

Thinking of getting a Sako but am torn between the 6.5 Creedmoor and the 6.5 PRC. Is their much of an advantage of 1 over the other? I really don't know much or have dug into reading and checking out the PRC. The only thing I know is their is a lot of variety of factory ammo for the 6.5 Creedmoor and it seems that it is readily available at the places I go. Is the PRC the same and is there a big price difference between the 2 in factory ammo? I don't reload anymore so factory ammo is what I would be shooting. Also, is 1 a little more inherently accurate than the other. I am just looking for opinions on these from people that shoot or have had them.

Thanks

The Creedmoor would be my recommendation due to your no longer reloading comment. Just seems like there is more variety and even Walmart carries Creedmoor ammo. I own both but I hand load also. Both cartridges can be very accurate. Just my opinion. You won’t be disappointed with either.

6.5 PRC is, a Great Big Game, Cartridge,.. BUT if, you shoot much, the Barrel Life is about, 1,500 Rounds, MAX vs 3,000+ for , the 6.5 Creed.
And as Stated above, the Ammo IS,. much,.. Cheaper !
Unless you can,. Handload.
I Love My 6.5 Creed,. W/ 130 gr. ELD-M's, in a Braked Rifle, it has, LOW recoil, Accurate & FUN to Shoot !
I will use 143 gr ELD-X's for, Hunting ( Just gotta Get, a couple Hundred Yards,. CLOSER than with, the PRC ! ).
For Deer sized Game to 500 - 600 Yards go with, the 6.5 Creed.,. as, It's,. Plenty !

Sako TRG 136 Scenar ammo shoots pretty good through both my Tikkas. Just shot my last three rounds of the box this morning.

I would have shot more rounds at the first target, but I had such a nice group going I didn’t want to risk it. :p

As Ranger188 asked, what is the intended use? If you are only considering factory ammo cost, the creedmoor is far cheaper and the options are many more. Velocity is roughly 200 fps faster in the PRC but it doesn't make that much difference in most applications.
Let everyone know what your use is.

You can get Hornady loaded ammo with the 140 grain bthp in the Creed for $1.30 a round pretty consistently now. It is branded American Gunner, Black, and Scheel’s has it loose packed under another label. Very decent range ammo.

I have two Creedmores, both custom on 700 actions. When the PRC came out, I just had to try it so I bought a Bergara. It shot well, but for the approximately 150 fps I picked up came more recoil, and more expensive components. I eventually sold it but still have the Creeds.

I own a couple creedmoors and a couple 6.5 PRCs. I don’t know what the factory market is for ammo for either, haven’t played that game for awhile. If your just plinking and having fun the creedmoor makes a lot of sense, cheaper ammo and it’ll probably be easier to find.

If your hunting with it or shooting longer ranges I’d go with the 6.5 PRC. The recoil isn’t bad at all for one thing, when we are out shooting rocks in the bad lands and we’re shooting both cartridges the PRC is hitting noticeably harder, it’s easy to see the difference.

Just depends on your intended use and ammo budget really. Both are accurate and easy to shoot.

I really enjoy my Creedmoor’s as range toys. If I wanted something more serious to get farther and stay with something close to the same neighborhood, would skipping the 6.5 and go straight to the 7PRC make more sense if round count is going to be low anyway?
