6.5 Grendel in a Remington 700 repeater?

Glad to see info about the 6 RAT/PPC etc on these 527s as well. I thought about one of those, but imagine it'd be cramped for space with heavier bullets (not that a Grendel wouldn't).

So there must be a different trigger guard/floor plate between the hornets and the 7.62x39 action...I dinked around yesterday and there flat out isn't enough width in the hornet gun I have now- and there must still not be much room width wise in the AK 527 actions by the time you stick a case, magazine body, and trigger guard steel in that action well.

Another side note, I called CZ and they seemed to be in agreement that these 527 actions would handle standard Grendel loads and then some- what do you all think? Would a guy dare to work up loads past book max for the Grendel under the assumption that this action could handle more than the ~52,000psi SAAMI spec?

And any of you simply use one of those CSS chambered 6.5 barrels on your 527?

I shoot Barnes TSX bullets with H322 for an awesome round. If you think about wanting to shoot unleaded - I'd be sure to see to it you have adequate freebore for an ideal load. I'd like to give mine a bit more. Can shoot a lighter bullet using the TSX, further reducing recoil - but the are still a bit long.

Wondering if the build worked out? If it's finished, how'd the grendels feed? Any mods needed?
Thanks,
Ken

Haven't built it yet. Reamer should be here soon.

Any word?

Reamers showed up from JGS and about to re-barrel my 6.8 SPC AR15 into a 6.5 Grendel. I will post a video of it on my youtube channel when I do. Subscribe to my channel if you haven't done so and you will get notified when I upload the video. I will do a video on the bolt action rifle as well when I get it completed.

What is the motivation behind switching from 6.8 to the Grendel?

I am taking my Grendel out for it's first hunt next weekend.

Two thoughts Erik,
I love my 6.5 Grendel AR, And the Alexander magazine has a different follower and probably a feed-lip adjustment. 2.260 col will handle all the factory ammo well, if feeding from AR mags. A setup to feed a 6.5 Grendel with bullet seated out to 2.35 would give an advantage to running heavier bullets but you might lose the performance with the factory ammo, and you'd lose the AR magazines.

If you go the AR magazine route, most plastic mags and Pmags I've dealt with are 2.255 max col, while steel mags are up to 2.265.

I think you'll be pretty happy with the bolt action Grendel. I had a CZ 527 converted for my son and it's worked out great. I have a 19" barrel and my hunting load is a 130 Accubond at 2430 fps. They can move faster but this is the sweet spot for accuracy and velocity in my gun.

I considered using a Rem action but it just seemed so over sized for the little Grendel case.

I built a 6.5 Grendel on a CZ 527 also so I'll chime in. I've got a 24" McGowen 9" tw barrel #5 contour. Worked out great I think about 10-11 lb scope and bipod included. I have been a little frustrated by the AR data thats very conservative. I'm using 123 sst's and h322. Got a load to shoot 5/8" at 100 at 26.2 gr. only going about 2480. I loaded and shot single rounds all the way to 28.5 gr without pressure signs. I'm hoping to find a faster node so I can get a bit more of my money's worth for the cartridge so to speak.. It's a sweet shooter. May also try varget. I know most folks are using slower powders than h322.

It was first instinct, but finding factory hunting ammunition is the reason. .260 and 6.5 Creemor were also in the mix but I think the 6.5 Grendel would make a very handy rifle for her.

I have a Grendel and like it just fine. Amazingly accurate and good velocities in 20".
If the terrain makes finding running deer difficult, I'd use 6,5 Creedmoor with Amax instead.

I've only shot 3 deer with my Grendel. Horribly failed season, it would normally be 30-40.
One deer shot in the head, predictably dropped on the spot.
One running deer shot. Bullet took a bit far back for my liking, but still stumbled and fell within paces.
One deer shot through the lungs. Huge blood spray, ran for about 10 seconds but fortunately ran in a circle and ended up where shot.

I also shoot the same bullet 300-400 fps faster in a short 6,5x284. It definitely hits with more dramatic results, usually dropping the deer on the very spot they were shot.

I am taking my Grendel out for it's first hunt next weekend.

Motivation is that I really like 6.5mm and dislike .277's. ;)

Presently running Reloader 15 with the Berger 130 grain hunting VLD loaded at 2.450" COAL. 2523 fps from the 22" 8tw PacNor sporter weight tube. I use a single shot adapter but could get them to feed from the SA dbm if I deemed necessary. 3/4 MOA at 200 yards is the norm but you want to watch the wind! Got an anterless tag to fill yet and think I'll give it a whirl.
