6.5 Creedmore factory gun,most accurate

A friend is considering buying one. Which is considered most accurate for 400-600 yards target shooting?
Is there factory ammo that is more accurate than others? Thanks.

When I got into 600 yd shooting I was not sure which gun would work the best. After looking at Bergra, Tikka, Browning guns I didn't really want to spend the big money on something I didn't know if I could really do.

At 74 yrs old my eyes and steadiness was a worry to me and knew if these things stopped me from doing it I would never recoupe my investment. We got a Savage model 12 F/V, 6.5 CM in on trade and the price was under $300.00 for the used gun. Now I figured that this was a amount of money that I could test the waters with.

Best choice I ever made. My first attempt at 600 yds was very encouraging hitting 12x12 steel at 600 every time (after getting the scope dialed in).

Yes, the stock in not bedded or pillared and did not fit me very well but I did replace the stock with a Boyds AT-one and bedded and pillared it.

Now that I knew that I could do it, I started dialing in the reloads. Ended up with 3" groups at 600 with my loads.

Since that time I have recommended the Savage model 12 F/V to all my customers that where thinking of getting into long range shooting but didn't want to spend a ton of money. My company does not offer that model and it is a Cabella's exclusive model, so I tell them to go to Cabella's and purchase one. At this time I have 3 of my customers shooting with me on our Monday night league. All are shooing the Savage and getting great groups.

Now after 3 years I have shot out the 6.5 barrel and replaced the barrel and still getting good results at 600 and 1000 yds.

At just over $400 for the Savage you could spend 3 times that for other 6.5 CM.

Yes, I have 3 times more money in the scope than the gun, but I could sell the scope for more than a used gun.

Pictures show the stock Savage and the same gun restocked with the Boyds. my Best group with the stock configuration at 600 yds.

I can commonly shoot 5/5 on the head portion of the steel silhouette target my range has at 550 with my factory tikka 20” ctr. That’s factory ammo. Hornady 147 or 140 but it seems to prefer 147 a tad. I would probably try the berger also, if you’re going to only shoot factory. Have heard great things

I’d imagine an AI could do better, but I’ve been pretty impressed for an 800$ rifle and factory ammo. I don’t know what your budget is from your post.

when you say target not sure if you mean target as in a range gun or target as in measured competition.

I have only shot 2 3 round groups with this rifle on paper at 100 yards. .6 and .4

Depending on budget, if leaves you with alot options. Is he planning on shooting PRS or just a backyard plinker.

2,500$ factory ready Tactical customs are becoming the norm. Id suggest buy once and cry once. Then TAKE A CLASS of instruction from a reputable instructor.

I’m going to second the savage 12fv. I paid $200 bucks after savage rebate but they are usually on sale for less than 400. Now if you are going to get seriously into f class or prs thats a different story. But for informal target shooting you cant beat them. You can always change the barrel out yourself.

Tikka T3 compact Tactical is what I have been running in competition.(PRS style) Amazing accuracy out of the box. the rifle is 1/2 minute gun when I can do my part. At this time the Tikkas are one of the most accurate factory rifles available.
Philip Velayo has started running one recently.
Frank Galli approves of them.
My experience has been top notch with its accuracy and consistency.

Here is 5 shots on a 3inch shoot-n-see at 100yds. 130gr Hornady ELDs Hand loads.

Factory Hornady Match ammunition shoots just a hair bigger than this.

I can give you about 10 photos of these groups if you wanted them.

Here is factory Hornady 140ELD Match at 800yds. Not my best shooting that day but it worked.

One combination I've repeatedly witnessed shooting very small groups is a Savage model 12 in small or large shank, and Hornaday Black 140 gr. This can be the low cost, plastic stock model 12FV that is a Cabelas/Bass Pro special, or a more expensive model 12 BVSS or even the high priced Target model. What ever one you might choose, try the Hornaday Black in 140 BTHP. The two seem to be a marriage made in heaven.

+1 and the Hornady American Gunner is supposed to be the same ammo in a different package.

Savage 110 tactical 6.5 creed. I bought it not caring about looks in case it gets dinged up. Shot a 3 inch group at 1,025 yards with handloads last year. I have a browning also just too nice i dont want to ding it up.

Funny no one mentioned a Remington? Wonder no more why they went bankrupt. I own Savage and Tikka, which is better IMHO.

No mention of budget which is a huge and deciding factor.

But, I too have seen Tikka in 6.5 CM shoot great right out of the box. Very popular for a reason, I think.

Savage 10 with MDT chassis. Tikka T3x ULR, Howa Bravo, Bergara B 14. They will all do a job, according to yer budget.

Remington Varmit, I did this for my father in law last year, boyd’s pro varmit, timney Calvin elite, EGW 20 moa base, and a Nikon fx1000 4-16x in a set of vortex rings all in for $1500 it shoots 3/8” 5 shot groups at 100 yards and has banged steel at 800 without issue
