6.5 Creedmore deer bullet recommendation Please

Guys,

I do not own one, but friend has one and i was wondering what bullet you are finding to be a nice deer bullet in an 8 Twist? Open field hunting out to 600 is likely longest he will go, most less.

Thanks

I've had good luck with both the 130 & 140 Berger VLD out of 8twist 6.5x47. My daughter got her bull elk this year with one shot Berger 140 and the performance was impressive. I've always had good luck with Partitions too.

I have found the 123 gr. AMax to be an excellent performing bullet on medium game and it delivers fine accuracy in my Grendel and .260 Rem, both 1:8 twists. If a heavier bullet is desired, it's hard to beat the 140 gr. Sierra Game King.

My $.02 . . .

All good recommendations above ^^^ for deer. If you move up to elk or bear I would suggest a bonded type bullet like the Nosler AB or a solid like the Barnes LRX. I would even suggest the old school Nosler Partition. They can be scary accurate and are the granddaddy of hunting bullet performance.

Thanks guys. I was interested to know because I needed an idea of whether to order a VLD stem for the seater he is getting. I decided to do so, and use the "factory" one for standard bullets. I am going to suggest Bergers for him to try. Appreciate your help

I shot one at around 154 with a 140 eldx out of my 260 AI. The bullet performed excellently. The deer ran 2 feet, straight to the ground, not so much as a wiggle. I am a Berger guy but have to say Hornady has a winner with this one.

+1 for 130gr and 140gr Berger VLDs.

Not sure which dies he will be using, but just be careful when you first try a VLD seating plug. I have a Redding VLD micrometer plug for my 338-375 Ruger seating die where I use the 250gr Berger Elite Hunter bullets. It contacts the tip of the bullet before the ogive. So I swapped it back out to my standard plug. Not sure if my 338 VLD plug is defective or not, or if it just wont work with the Elite Hunters, but thought I'd throw you a word of caution.

That was the first and last VLD plug I purchased. I just use standard plugs on all of my other seating dies used for Berger VLD bullets

I don't own a Creedmoor but have three other hunting rigs in different chamberings of that diameter bullet. Every one has their favorites and they all work to varying degrees but I've never had to track one when using the 130 VLD hunting bullet. Every animal I ever shot with them was DRT.

You need to find a bullet that when seated to mag length will shoot well. For the Creedmore size case I would try the 130 Berger Hunting bullets.

The only thing that makes the Creedmoor worth even thinking about is the fact you can seat the heavy 140s properly and still fit the mag. For hunting situations, I would give up the least amount of energy and wind drift possible and that means a Berger 140. Excellent ballistics for a long range shot if needed and devastating terminal performance.

I am really impressed with the 129 Interlock in my .260. I have not shot it at 500+ yet, but based on other Interlocks I have shot, it should be good to at least 500.
