6.5 creedmoore and RE17

Yes. I am still at the office so I dont have my load data but email me directly and I will send you my data when i get home this evening.

Mudcat,
I would be intrested too. I am starting to load some for the 260 with 123s if you have any data on that bullet with the R-17. Thanks!!

Ok, finally got a chance to go pull some load data, or at least one load I used that worked really well at 300 yards when I tested it out of a T2k. I used Berger 140VLDs with 40.0grs of RE17. I fired 20 shots, on a MR63 target which has a 2.75 inch or so X ring. 19 Xs and 1 ten that I dropped just out of the X ring. Total group was sub MOA. This load is pretty stout and will be hard on the brass, I think so be sure to work up and stop before you start killin those primer pockets. 39.0grs would be much easier on the pockets,I was working on a 600yard or LR load) Velocity, IF I remember correctly, was over 2850 or pushing 2900, but I think that was with my old chronograph, so it could have been off.

YMMV.

I thought that RL17 was supposed to give much higher velocities? 2850fps is easily obtainable with H4350. I was interested in RL17 also but not anymore.

It does. My velocity readings may be off as I was using a old Pact POS and my memory aint what it used to be. I got a good bit over 100FPS more out of Re17 than I did out of H4350 before I started losing the pockets....the weak link of the whole cartridge.

If anyone can get the same velocities out of H4350 that they can get out of Re17, then I do want to know how to do it as I prefer H4350 any day.

John

43 grns of H4350 gives me 2870fps from the 140AMAXs. On the third reloading of the cases and primer pockets are fine.

I just got back with some data. I was shooting a 140 berger vld, federal 210 match primers, bullet seated 0.025 off the lands. I'm shooting a 26'Lawton barrel and action. Temp was 25 deg F. I did a step test with 0.2 grains increments starting with 38.2 gn and ending with 43.o gn RE17. Bolt lift was slightly harder on the last two shots but just barely. I got 2492 fps for the low and 2836 for a high. I was expecting more. I do get higher velocities with h4350. With what others have posted I was sure I was going to loose a primer pocket or two but they are all fine. I'm going back to H4350 for now. Hope this helps.

This may be a little off topic but it should be close. I have a 260 shooting 123s and tried some R-17 for the first time this weekend.

Guy I work with got a new cronograph and had it set up so I shot my pet load of 43.5grs of H4350 with the 123s across it and found it to be very, very consistant @ 2975fps!! It had a SD of 1.2 yes, thats corret 1.2fps for SD for 5 rounds.

But, back on topic, I had loaded up some R-17 to try out so I shot a load of 43.5grs across the cronograph an it was right at 3000fps.,I can't remember for sure what it was exactly). I had no idea where to start so I started at 42grs but only tested the hotter load. From the looks of the primers I am not even close to a max load with this load. I would guess well over 3000fps will be easy with this powder but not sure what the accuracy will be like since we were all shooting at the same dot.

My 4350 load is very, very accurate in my rifle so it will be hard to switch. I was curious if the R-17 would work well with the lighter 123s.

I asked this question some time ago. Since then i have tried the RE17 in my 6.5CM. I havent had any luck with it thus far. H414 and h4350 along with varget is a better ticket in my rifles. Thought i would share! Lee
