6.5 Creedmoor questions

The Prime is thicker in the body and web compared to Hornady and the primer pockets held up well at 4 firings at med/hot loads with 140+gr bullets and H4350. I converted 200 Lapua .308 and I no longer load anything else. The brass stays very consistent in length/primer pocket tension over 10+ firings...some report 40+ firings with moderate loads. I love making things so forming the brass was fun for me. If I did not want to mess with it then Prime brass is the way to go IMO if you want cheaper than buying Norma/Nosler.

Where did you hear/find out that Winchester was making 6.5 Creedmoor cases now ?

As best I can see, there is Winchester brand ammo on sale, but as there are no unprimed cases listed by them, they are either buying the brass in with their headstamp or even getting someone else to load it. My take (purely a guess) is that Winchester currently lacks the capacity to make Creedmoor brass but sees it as such a commercially important cartridge it doesn't want to miss out on it.

Another option is to buy Prime Ammo 130gr 6.5 Creedmoor ammo. It is made with Norma Brass.

.... and with the very high BC Norma 130gn VLD bullet too. (It is manufactured for Prime Ammunition by German / Swiss combine RUAG which owns Norma.)

Unfortunately we don't see Prime in the UK apart from a few 308s that are apparently repatriated eastwards from the US if there is some spare in the Prime Ammo order. We can get Norma 6.5 Creedmoor unprimed new brass though and as rardoin says it's heavier than Hornady. It holds 1gn less water than Hornady brass after fireforming in my rifle.

I did a comparison test of Hornady/prime/lapua308-creedmoor brass after one firing:
all avg. of 10 cases

Water cap. grains/empty weight

Hornady 52.9 / 153.3
Prime 52.5 / 161.7
Lapua 308/6.5Cm 48.9 / 168.7

As you can see...much more meat in the Prime<Lapua cases versus Hornady. On the 65Creedmoor site there are guy getting 4 firings or so on the H brass before primer pockets are too loose but some getting greater life by a bit (obviously load dependent).

I myself have bought Win 6.5 ammo loaded from Win 6.5 creedmoor stamped cases. Not sure if they sell it separately though.

You guys using the Lapua brass how much do you have to reduce your loads?? And what does this do to the velocity?? I have been loading Hornady brass with 42.7grs of H4350 with 140 and 139s. I have 8 to 10 loadings and still holding up well. I have only tossed a couple of cases. I did form some out of Lapua 308 but have not played with them. So was wondering how much I should cut back my loads.... Thanks Guys!!!!

To get 2700fps in my 24" barrel /H4350/ CCI br-2 I loaded the Hornady with 42.5gr and the Lapua brass with 41.0 pushing Bob Cauterucio 141.5vld's at 0.010" off the lands. Loads are 98+% of case capacity.
