6.5 Creedmoor - Hornady Comparator Gauge - Which One ?

Glad to see i wasn`t the only one questioning this Hornady comparator gauge ordeal. I tried searching earlier before i posted a thread, i didnt see this one. Hopefully it`ll help others, like me when i wasn`t sure. Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread.

Where did you come up with that chart. I`m looking at the back of the package that my comp gauges came in, not a one of them say 6.5 Creedmoor on it. Especially the C.375 package. Seems the 6mm Creedmoor isn`t on your list here, and it seems it should be, since its the same cartridge as the 6.5CM, just a smaller neck size in the 6mmCM.

To be correct the datum length and headspace dimension of the 6.5CM is based on 0.400" diameter of the shoulder. This dimension is a carryover from the 30 TC which is the parent case and the 0.400" is midway between the body/shoulder and shoulder neck portions of the 30 TC case/chamber. When adapted to the 6.5 diameter bullet the shoulder lengthens so the midpoint of the shoulder moves out. The datum or headspace dimension is one of the critical dimensions so it is kept the same for consistency. Hornady recommends using the bushing closest to the midpoint for the 6.5 CM for some reason which is the source of the confusion. Unfortunately they don't always do this. Case in point, all the 308 cartridges from the parent to the 243 use the 0.400" bushing.

As several have noted since we are "comparing" dimension from case to case and not actually measuring a dimension to match a drawing any measurement on the shoulder can be used as long as its concisely used.
