6.5 Creedmoor Barrel Length

I am ready for a new barrel on my Savage model 10. It is in an Ashbury Precision Ordnance Saber chassis. I am limited to 600 yds, have an inventory of 147 ELD's, and H4350, Varget & RL16, I assume 8 twist and 24" length is what I should be looking at, but would consider other suggestions. Is there any disadvantage to going a little longer in length? It will be shot from a bench.

No disadvantages in going longer with a quality barrel blank. Gain a smidge of velocity but its only 600 yards. Only shooting from a bench heavier barrel wont matter your not hiking with it. Biggest disadvantage i see is the gamble of those bullets making it to the target . Good luck with the new barrel

I have gone to 30-inch on pretty much all my non-hunting rifles and 32 on my F-Class rifles. If nothing esle, it lets me run things at lower pressures. In my 6.5CMs, I shoot 153.5s and 156 EOLs and the 30-inch barrels allow me to shoot these over 2800 comfortably and accurately.

Shorter is fine but longer can have some benefits.

Anywhere between 23-26 work really well with different profiles and muzzle devices. For target applications typically largest diameter at the muzzle your weight tolerance allows. The straighter the taper the better. Think Palmas instead of varmints. Thread it for a Mike Ezell tuner or ats tuner as those two do some different things that are nice in their own regard.

It would appear, from your comment you have never shot or worked with one beyond 400 yards.
I have competed with a NeedMoor out to 600 yds in our local Long Range precision matches. I'm now shooting a 6 dasher and a 6X47 lapua for the matches. Shooting better bullets in the 2900-3000 fps range.
I'm using 26" barrels. It's not called a "Need Moor" for nothing. BTW my 260 ACK with 142 Sierra will shoot circles around the "Need Moor"!

You shooting paper or steel targets with the creed verse your 260 ? Just curious. 600 yards is point blank range to me. I have all 3 6.5 creed 260 and 260ai they all shoot roughly the same at 100 dont really see a difference untill about 1300 to 1400 yards for me. Velocity is just a dial on the scope for drop . If you cant call wind they all miss .
