Did you ever get this up and running? Same to OP with the 6.5 BR AI. Id be interested in what you found with it!
Yep, I had JGS make a reamer for me and I had a barrel chambered up. Essentially a 6.5 dasher.
I used Peterson 6 dasher brass that I necked up.
I had the freebore set for lightweight 108 class bullets but enough room for 120’s as well.
I started off with Lapua 108’s and had good success. The main issue was powder availability….this was during the powder shortage so I was limited on what I could test.
I had some H4895 that produced very good results and really good speeds, but I had limited quantities.
I also tried Shooters world precision as well as accurate 4064. Accurate 4064 was very good but with the large stick powder I was limited to case capacity. A good safe accurate speed was 2750 or so but could get up into the 2800’s
Shooters world was ok but didn’t seem the best
H4895 yielded much better speeds, up to 2980 but that was maximum just to see how far I could go. A realistic charge gave about 2850…best safe charge would be 2800 +/-
I also picked up some Sierra 107’s from the forum but they were awful. They were early 2000’s vintage bullets and had some serious inconsistencies….they would shoot great till it would randomly sling one waaaay off target so that test I threw out.
At the time, with the component crunch I sidelined the project and put the 6bra barrel back on but I plan to revisit the cartridge.
I think a 120 class bulllet, maybe a 123 Scenar would be better suited to my 1:8 krieger.
With that said, I absolutely think this is a viable cartridge. I shot it in a couple matches with aa4064 and it did very well. I really want to see what a 120gr bullet produces.
Depending on your shooting discipline this could be a great cartridge…
