6.5 barrel burners

I know that a 6.5x284, 264 win mag etc are known barrel burners. Any real world experience with a 6.5/06 and 6.5/06AI being a barrel burner?

The 40 deg shoulder of the AI would have to yield the most barrel life if done right.
I built a reg 6.5-06 right after Sandy Hook, finding brass was hard, Norma was all I could find and the way I was hammering it, the brass did not last. I set the barrel back to a 6.5 creed and sold it, it's still shooting today. I cannot help on barrel life of the 06.

Barrel life for a given cartridge varies with its owners' expectations. Service rifles for military combat use will have 3 times or more barrel life than match rifles for competition; both with the same cartridge. It's all based on ones objectives, conditions and standards.

As the 6.5x284 and 6.5x06 burn about the same amount of powder, their barrel lives are about equal. 6.5x284, about 900 rounds in match rifles. 2000 rounds has been reported for 6.5x06 hunting rifles.

6.5 Sherman, but I wouldn't consider it to bad of a barrel burner. I believe guys are getting 1500 rounds at least of accurate barrel life. I only have about 600 rounds out of mine, so I can not report on it as of now. It is impressive driving a 140 Berger at 3339 fps out of my 28" Hart. Brass lasted 5 firings with this load.

I am a HUGE fan of the 6.5 caliber, from the 6.5 x 47 all the way up! If you are running Top-Fuel dragsters, then engines, transmissions and tires are VERY expendable, it is simply the cost of performance! 260A.I.s and 6.5 x 284s are, in probably my opinion only, at or very near the TOP of the F-Open ladder! The cost of replacing barrels is built into the equation of the performance / accuracy level I expect! That IS the bottom line!

I have about 900 rounds on my 6.5-284 match rifle and still going strong. Had it checked by a gunsmith and he said it was showing wear but not ready to be rechambered yet.

I'm impressed how good the throat looks through the Hawkeye in my 6.5 PRC at 500 rounds.
