30-06AI at 1400+ yds?

Guy I know was talking about a dynamite shoot coming up. About the only thing I have that might work is the '06AI. I have some M118ball bullets, some 168amax, might have some 178amax , 175 Barnes match burners, and definitely a box of 208amax. What do you think would work the best for the shoot, which might go to 1600dyds?
the gun is a Savage F class in 308 that has been rechambered to '06AI, so 30" bbl.

Thanks,

The 06AI will produce almost .300win mag velocities with bullets of 180gr or heavier. The 178s might be your friend, at least keep you respectable with less recoil and more initial velocity. Look at a ballistic calculator to be sure. The Sierra manual has complete data. Might call them and ask about data for the 175 tipped matchkings or find some Berger super-bullet.

Will sure be a learning experience and a lot of fun. You might be in the hunt if lots of consecutive rounds, recoil of the big magnums is rarely a walk in the park for most shooters.

If you had a twist in 1:11 or the 1:10 you would probably better served with the 208gn. Given the 1:12 twist, in my experience I would go with the 175 or 178gn as they may stabilise better. Just my experience though.
