my brother shot a 6.5 300 whby that shot very good at our home 1000yd range, I will call him and get some info, it shoot really good at 1000 5to6 inches at 1000 but we went to Pa and he shot a wrong target he had a 5in group at the time still has the target it would have easily won small group that day, then we quit shooting because of an accident. This was in 1989 I think he was runnin 7828 maybe 78 to 82 grs or maybe more can't member

H870 was a very dirty powder when I used it many years ago. Personally, I would look at the loads in Handloader and pick another choice.

It certainly isn't the cleanest burning powder out there, but I've had excellent results in terms of velocity and accuracy in certain applications. I wouldn't use it in match ammo where I might have to go 60 rounds or more between cleanings, but you can bet that my .25-'06 and .25-'06 AI will be eating full cases of 870 topped off with a 120 grain Speer BT when I take them into the deer woods.

With "barrel burner" cartridges I tell people to throw a buck in an envelope every time they pull the trigger. Maybe there will be enough when the barrel is shot out.
But if used as a big game hunting rifle, only shot to check zero and at game it will last for generations.

I disagree. This case is most definately designed to be a LR hunting case..it's a Weatherby!!! You should be shooting at least 100 - 200 rounds a year at extended ranges for practice for ethics sake!!
