6.5.284 need a new barrel

i need to re barrel my 6.5.284 savage any advice for me i am lookin to close the my group and raise my 600 yrd scores i shoot fclass i have about 1400 rounds and plenty of erosion any advice would be appreciated are they just unscrew locking nut and drop in no gunsmith and were to buy

Check out Jim Briggs at Northland Shooters Supply. He'll not only fix you up with a barrel, but he will help you through the barrel changing process. If he could get me through my first barrel swap, I'm sure he can help you through yours. They don't come any better than Jim.

Delaware_Ken has given you good advise. Every thing you will need and everything you will need to know about the swap are available from Northland as I understand it.

Changing the barrel on a Savage is not as easy as unscrewing the old one and screwing on a new one, but it sure isn't hard either! You just need some knowledge.

There is a wealth of information available to you by searching the internet. Search this site for "Savage barrel swap" and you get 5 pages of information. There are many top makers selling Savage pre fit barrels. There are videos on YouTube that show you how to do it as well. Do some research and I'm sure that it won't be long until you have the confidence to do the job.

If you want your accuracy to be the best it can be, my suggestion would be to have a Broughton 5R barrel fitted to your action by a qualified gunsmith using a reamer that is designed to fit the bullets you intend to use.
