OK, just finished screwing the stock on my new gun. 6.5 - 284.

Trued Rem LA with follower glued in.
28" #17 Krieger 8 twist barrel.
Shehane Varmint Tracker stock.
2oz Jewell trigger.

I have 300 pcs of Lapua brass
Some 142 gr SMKs
8 lb of H4831sc and varios primers. Time to start playing.
2 Questions:
Do I have to do anything to the Lapua brass other than start using it? and
Where is a good place to start with the powder charge?
Thanks in advance........

Bob Question # 1 You do not have to do anything to the Lapua brass but most guys will run it thru their die, de-burr the flash holes, uniform the primer pockets, check length and trim if needed, de-burr and chamfer case mouths. I normally wait until after I fire form to uniform the primer pockets or trim the length. Just my way of doing it. Others may differ.

Question # 2 I start with 49.0 gr. of H4831sc and work up in .05 gr. increments til I know it is right. If you go too far and see pressure signs back off 1.0 gr. and call that the max. load for your rifle.

I hope this helps and hope you got a shooter. Bill

If you need more help PM me.

What's the chamber-neck diameter? What's the loaded case's neck's outside diameter? Lots of 6.5-284 chambers are designed to use neck-turned brass.

jeffrey, I kind of took for granted that he was working with a no-turn neck chamber since he did not mention turning the brass. Hope I did not mis-lead him there. Bill

...and I hope Bob didn't misunderstand what he has since he didn't say.
