6.5 140gr. FPS.

What is considered the maximum velocity based on chamber pressure for the different 6.5 cartridges used in competition, figuring a 30" barrel?

I'd suggest a practical speed is between 2950 - 3050 fps.,Others, having more experience, hopefully will post their comments on this topic.)

I've pushed Berger 140's & Clinch River Outfitter 146's @ 3500fps + out of a 6.5 SAUM wildcat chambering.
I throated for the Sierra 155's @ 3250fps to buck the wind @1K.

Dan,

That in a BR rig, or something for F-Class?

I'd be hard pressed to think that kind of speed would be practical over two or three 22-shot matches in a day,but for 1200 yards it'd be super!).

I think the max for a 6.5-284 is around 3100, I dont know if its possible to hit the next node up.

Might be possible - once - but not something your fellow competitors would look kindly to, going off next to them on the line.

There are a LOT of cartridges capable of shooting the heavier 6.5 bullets, so the limiting part of the original question I think is the "... in competition" part.

The poster will have to chime in here to give us more details as to exactly what kind of competition he has in mind. I'm sure there's somebody, somewhere with a necked-down 50 BMG wildcat they've had a reamer made for that takes 6.5 bullets....

The Barnard P-O2 actioned,Krieger 30" 1:8.5 twist Bbl 6.5 SAUM pushing Sierra 155's @3250fps is my NRA prone 1K set up.

Time of flight has it's merits.
