How good is the Nosler 140gr 6.5?

Nosler is having a sale on some of their bullets. Has anyone used the Nosler 140gr 6.5mm bullet? How does it compare to the Lapua 139gr Scenar or Sierra 142 HPBT? Or is it more comparable to the old Sierra 140gr HPBT? This bullet will be used in a 6.5-284 for 1000yd prone NRA competitions.

They are pretty high on the list of bullets to shoot.

They wouldnt be there if problems were common. You will have to give them a try and see if your rifle likes them.

I am wondering if the Noslers are as good as the Lapua 139. I bought a bunch of the Lapuas when Powder Valley had good prices on those bullets. I'm not sure if the Noslers are as good a deal. Since many of the Noslers are Sierra clones, I was wondering whether the Nosler 140gr was a clone of the Sierra 140. The Sierra 140 is not as good a bullet the Sierra 142.

In my win 70 factory 6.5x55 chambered XTR, not FWT; the leade is very long.

I compared the Nosler 140 competition with Sierra 140 matchking and found, using a sinclair bullet comparator and digital caliper that the Nosler ogive was further forward, therefore less jump. The Nosler is more flexible for my situation.

Probably should just set the barrel forward about .5" and go Ackley Improved with chamber leade dimensions I would prefer, but the rifle is collectible...

I like Nosler Comp bullets and buy the 77gr .224s, the 6.5s, and 168gr .30s. Too bad they don't make a .338 250gr with high BC...

Not with this particular load - I'm hoping to duplicate this (if I can get the planets to line back up again ;D ) - I've got the Hornady powder scale/dispenser since I did these and have since sorted my brass & bullets (half are 139.7-140.0 and the other are 140.1-140.2). Even though the velocity is a bit lower I think the potential is good. The price is QUITE reasonable.

FYI, Hornady lists a 140 A-MAX HP (w/o the red tip) that according to Powder Valley will be priced competitively with the Nosler when they get it.
