There drillin' the day lights out of it, here in Western Oklahoma, between OKC and Amarillo, TX. New technology, horizontal wells, more pipe in the 'pay zones', more perforations in the pipe, more hydrocarbones can be collected. Price is about $3.70 f/reg. I'm glad my shop is a matter of yards behind the house, drove less than 10,000 miles last year, according to my oil chg. records. Lots of new wind mill 'farms' in the area, too bad most transportation doesn't run on electricity. One of the natural gas/oil cos. is setting up CNG fueling stations all along I-40, here, and have converted most of their fleet to CNG. $1.39/gal.! This could be the answer, but, it makes too much sense for those in Washington. After all, they control 2 of the 'big 3' auto makers so they wouldn't be allowed to build cars & pick-ups already for CNG. I know! Let's shut down drilling in the golf, refuse to allow drilling in ANWAR, go after those that frac (fracture formations to allow more hydrocarbons to be recovered) because they caused an earth quake in Japan, and refuse to allow any production off of the left coast! Then we can pursue our aganda of 'green energy', what ever that is! Who cares if the "folks" hurt a bit, it's for their own good, we know better than they do! It's what we get when there's a bunch in-charge that don't know how to 'make a buck', just spend it!
