58gr. 6mm What Twist/Freebore

Terry

I have 3,000 55 & 58 grain 6mm bullets I bought for PD hunting. They are too short to reach the lands in my 1:12 Savage barrel. What twist rate and freebore should I be looking for? I'm using a 6BR.

Thanks!

Terry

I use these same bullets in a Bartlein 14 twist, 0 freebore, shoots fantastic, can shoot up to 70 gr Sierra Blitzking, but the 69 gr Bergers keyhole. Chambered by Dan Dowling.

I have two 14 twists, 58s won't work without some serious jump. One was reamed with the bluebox, .270 neck .093 freebore and won't put a 58 anywhere close to the lands.

Hogpatrol, what bullets were you planing on shooting in a 14 Twist with a .093 freebore, I can not gt anything heavier than a 70 gr to stabilize in my14 twist, wish I could get a 80 gr but it is so far into the case for my FB and it wont stabilize anyway. Love the 14 twist but mine will not shoot anything with a long bearing surface. I need to just touch or kiss the lands for any accuracy from mine.

I called a well know reamer manufacturer and asked about which reamer I needed for the lighter bullets. I was told the .093 bluebox would work. I can't remember if I specifically said 58gr bullets but after I did the machine work & tried one, I gained .015, hardly worth the effort. The 66s & 69s work but I'm getting my best results with 68s .005 in to the lands. Hope this helps, Hog.

That 12 twist will do just fine.

I use a zero free bore in my 14 twist.

I don`t know your situation, but you could set back your barrel and find a zero freebore reamer and just re-chamber what you already have.....

Phil, That's what I'm probably going to wind up doing.
