What freebore for 6BR , 87-90gn bullets.

I now have a 6mm barrel with 10" twist which I would like to get chambered in 6BR and use 87-90gn bullets. I will be checking which reamers my gunsmith has. Just wondering what freebore will work best with the mid weight bullets?

Gunsandgunsmithing.
I found a local gunsmith with a .050" freebore reamer with 1 1/2 degree leade. I will likely go with this one, I hope it works with the mid weight bullets, specificly the 87 and 88gn Bergers.

With the pretty long neck of a 6br, and that bullet, you should be just fine from .040 to a little over .100" of freebore. There are several other bullets that might work well in your 10tw 6br that will not be above the neck shoulder junction, i.e., 95 BIB's. I think you'll be just fine. And you may still want to try bullets that seat below the neck/shoulder junction. There are some very good shooting guns that don't meet the criteria of having the base of the bullet above that junction. From the powders that I've used with mid weight 6mm bullets in a 6br, I have not lacked for capacity with them. I'd make sure any doughnut is dealt with, but they are not as much an issue as you will read on the internets ;)

Mike, I don't think that you can get away with 40 thou freebore with the 95 BIB. The chamber that you cut for me with 80 thou is marginally too short unless you're OK with the bullet past the neck/shoulder junction. I know that you're OK with it. I want the blasted thing in the neck. Preferably up where it's resized. But that's just me.

I think that's what I said :) . Either way, I meant that .040 to a bit over .100 would work for the 87vld, but the bib would need more than the 87 to keep it above the junction. Sorry if i wasn't clear.

Sorry, on reading it, it made sense.

The bottom line is that the 87 VLD is perfect in the freebore that your reamer cuts but the 95 BIB wants more. I've read Randy write that 104 is perfect.

I want to find time to try the Berger 90gr BT in that chamber. I just haven't had time.

In mine, the base of the 95 BIB is right at the neck/shoulder junction with a quite a bit of jam. I'd like the option to not jam so much for several different reasons.

The 95 Bib appears to have a longer bearing surface than the other mid weights I would be trying. The other 95s I might try have a much shorter bearing surface and the 95 Bibs aren't available here, so I hope the shorter throat will work for me?

My Berger 88gn LD bullet just arrived and I found they have a long bearing surface, unlike the Berger 66gn LDs I use in my 6 PPC. It seems that these bullets will work just fine in my current chamber, which was cut to suit the 105gn pills.
The freebore on these flat bases is longer than the 95gn Bergers. I will be able to use these 88gn LDs in either of my 6BRs or 6 Dashers, but I will mainly play with them in my 10" twist Dasher for now.

I have a .115 FB in my 6BR with 1-8" 5R .236 bore and it shoots 87 vld bergers all the way up to 115 berger vlds great.
