550B Lubrication

I have a 550B for about 20 years and it’s about due for a clean and
Lube. Can I just drill out and tap the existing holes for zerks while I have it apart to make future lubing easier?

Drilling and tapping yourself will be much cheaper. Or just drill the smaller hole for the tapered point type grease gun tips, that what my "newer" 550 has. If it works, and it should, your way ahead. It you break it, then order the upgrade!

The "basically a big nail" mentioned above, is for knocking out the left side upper pivot pin. A big nail with the point machined off. Any big punch or long enough bolt or rod will work just as well.

Guy I bought my 550 from had drilled small holes to fit a needle nosed grease gun , no zerks and I use that
with good results. If I ever load any thing requiring a primer change, I will be in need of the alignemnt thingy but for now it's large primers all the way.
