500yrd Benchrest Scope

Hey fellas Im looking to get back into 500yrd benchrest shooting this spring and have got a Savage rifle in 243 that will be coming home hopfully in a month or so, but Im needing opinions on a scope. Im looking at the Weaver Target T-Series 36x40 this is in my price range an seems to get good reviews. Anyone on here have this scope? An what are your thoughts on it? or would there be something better in the same price range that I haven't found yet? Thanks guys......

I own two Weaver T 36's one with fine crosshair and the other 1/8" dot. I prefer the dot. I am satisfied with my Weavers, considering their cost they are IMO a good choice for a budget minded person. The Sightron 36x is another choice, I don't own one but have looked through one and believe them to be similar to a T36 although others will surely disagree. I have found my Weavers are not great light gatherers, but you will be probably be using them during strong daylight hours and they are a target not a hunting scope so.... and I have found eye relief can be a bit tricky but manageable. I am not an expert, just a casual target shooter/user who owns a few different scopes but I often recommend the T36 to my friends who are starting into target shooting. The Nightforce BR and the NF Comp scopes are a great improvement over the T36 should you decide to go all out.

I have several Nightforce scopes, a Sightron 10-60, Leupold 40x, March 10-60x and two Weaver 36x. One NF has been returned to the factory for repair, as has the Leupold. But the March and two Weavers have never had a problem. The Weaver is an excellent scope, but for 500 yds, I would opt for a little more power.
