500M Fly Shoot

Travis aka alloytargets owner of Field and Cave Outfitters has donated a
Rock Creek 6mm 8 twist Hv barrel to be given to this years Shooter of the Year at the 500m Fly Shoots at Pine Valley in Huntsville.
Travis has never failed to help us with any request for targets or donations.

Pretty typical of Pine Valley. All the rain made it perhaps a little steamier than usual. Props to Mike and the target crew for working in the mud & getting it done quickly & professionally. There were brief periods of cloudiness where the mirage wasn’t terrible and you could make out bullet holes - but most targets were shot “blind”. Winds weren’t that strong, but shifty from about 7 to 3 O’clock.

I saw a lot of good groups that didn’t score well. Most everyone had at least one complete stinker target. It’s puzzling. Whoever can figure out where to aim differently on the score target vs the sighter plate in various conditions will have the keys to the kingdom. I’m baffled that the few feet of elevation can make such a drastic change in POI.

Polly Henderson handles all the computer work and Dewayne Pullum scored all the targets. Tommy Middleton works tirelessly in the days before the matches at the range. Thanks Larry Deese and Darrel Martin for mowing the range. My son Justin always lends a hand to prepare and clean up.
After a week of storms there was plenty of water on the ground to make the mirage look 3 feet deep. When you few clouds we had came over, you could see your hits but those times were few and far between.
We give awards for highest score in heavy gun and light gun. But we give first thru third for highest over all scores of the combined classes.
Match Winner- Gary Worlow, a light gun in 6.5x47 $300.00
Second Overall- Geramo Villarreal, a heavy gun in 6 Dasher $250.00
Third Overall- Travis Frazer shooting a light gun in 6 br. $200.00
Small group of the day shot in Heavy gun class was Travis Frazer at 1.545
Small group of the day shot in Light gun class was Richard Pullum at 1.339
Highest scoring target in Light gun was Donnel Gaines with a 57.03
Highest scoring target in Heavy gun was Travis Frazer with a 59.00
Joe Duke set a new record at Pine Valley hitting 7 flies for the day.
