500 S&W 300 FTX load data

Anyone have the 300 FTX data for the 500 S&W?
Wayne,

From Hornady 9th Edition Reloading manual. (attached) for a 8 3/8" BBL S&W (Listed test gun)

If you have a different powder in mind let me know before 10 AM tomorrow as I'm headed back out, and I could run a Quick-Load scenario for you.

I have 3 of these pistols, 2 are "L" Frame S&W's (a 4" Big-Rock Special, & 10.5" Performance Center) and A Magnum Research 10" BFR Single-Action. -

When you "step on the gas" on a 500 S&W you know that you've shot a "real" big-bore handgun !!

Fired both the 296 load and the N110 load this past weekend. The N110 load is super clean. Both were good on pressure. Plan to do some bench tests later. The gun toasted a Bushnell Trophy DOA 600 in about 9 rounds. Looks like pepper all over the reticle. Scope was still holding zero.

These bullets put 1/4" x 3/4" dents in 1/2" steel at 65ish yards.

This gun is a hammer. Recoil was not really any worse than my 444 Marlin.

I just bought a handi rifle in this caliber. Running a max charge of little gun with the 300ftx gives me 2465fps across my chrono. This is done with a 22 inch barrel. The recoil is stout to say the least. Are you using standard LRP or magnum rifle primers?

Shooting the 500 S&W in a 20" bbl Encore I get 2,377-34 with 46.7gr Lil-Gun and a CCI 200 primers. The accuracy stinks at 4" @ 100yds. I have a Leupold 2x mounted on the rifle.

FWIW - CFE-Blk is worth a try. Good velocity and decent accuracy with reduced felt recoil. However, you need to use near max charges to get the powder to burn cleanly.

Accuracy isnt the best for me either. I am 3 shots at about 3 inches. Serviceable for deer hunting but I would prefer better. I dont know how much punishment I am willing to take to tune loads for it though. I got away from slug guns and bought a cva 44 mag due to recoil and cost. I bought the 500 because it was too cheap to pass up as an extra deer gun.

Are you putting a crimp on your cartridges? Im putting a pretty firm one on but I use lil gun in my 44 and I barely crimp using 225 ftx. I just clean up the flare and then a tad more. Im curious if I should do the same with the 500. Although I am not sure if lil gun would need a heavy crimp to burn properly. I have heard H110 requires a firm crimp to light off right. I notice some load data calls for magnum rifle primers. I have some left over I might give those a try and see how those perform as well.

I put a heavy crimp on all 500 S&W loads. Recommended primers varies with whose data you are looking at. I'd think a LR (CCI 200) primer has enough juice to more then adequately ignite the charges in a 500 pistol cartridge.

However, maybe trying a Fed 215 with the CFE-BLK might be an idea worth trying.

Trying to load for the 500 S&W New England arms Handy rifle, (single shot).
I have a box of Hornady 350 grain XTP bullets and a box of 500 grain bullets.
The only load data I can find is in the Hornady book and that seems to be for revolver loads.
I would like to see if I can find some rifle loads with slower powder.
Does anyone know where to look. I could probably use a new reloading manual anyway. I only have about 25 right now.

I had a strange issue with the Hornady 44 flex tips last year with my Contender 445 SM. Happened probably with 50 % of fired rounds. This copper ring from the base of the bullet would be stuck to the case mouth.

I have shot .500 S&W mags for several years using a Magnum Research BRF. Attached is several types of loads for every manufacturer and every bullet weight. I typically shoot 350 to 375 grain HCFNGC rounds that I cast.

I've let my 20" Kahtahdin T/C barrel run its course and I'm ready to move on. If anyone is interested I am looking to sell the barrel, forearm, Leupold 2x scope & mount.
