5.56x57

Traded into a set of dies and some brass for 5.56x57 and a small ring Husky action. Thinking about barreling the action for this cartridge.
Anyone have any experience with 5.56x57?

That's the military designation for the .223; it's used in vast quantities by the military (M4) and civilians (AR-15). The cartridge is the same, but the military 5.56 chamber has a longer leade to control pressure. I shoot it in NRA Highpower & Long Range competition. Any relatively recent loading manual will have .223 loads and many have the 5.56 as well.

This is not a 223 or 5.56x45. This is 5.56x57 or 8mm Mauser sized down to 22 caliber. Looking for some loading data.

Isn't the 5.56X57 essentially the 22-6mm Remington? Following link has some load data for the 22-6mm Rem.

No experience with the cartridge but I've read some about it. The case necks are super thick. This is because .22 LR steel conversion inserts were used in guns chambered for this cartridge so the chamber necks are oversized to accommodate the inserts. From what I've read, the thick brass necks sometimes don't expand enough to seal combustion gasses. IIRC there's loading data in the Hornady manual.

Look for some data for the 5.6x57 RWS. The Hornady 8th edition manual has a section on it. There is also a section in Reloaders Nest with some information.

I still have some reloads after many years but do not have recorded what the load was made up of. It is a RWS round and I may still have a few RWS new pieces of brass. It was a very hot load but I don't think I ever got a speed reading on it. The rifle was mailed to me to try to see if I wanted it. It was a nice weapon but had a noodle barrel which is totally not ME.
