l have 5 guns/rifles in 222 Remington of various makes/models. l need ''ONE'' load for ALL. I shoot Prairie Dogs and paper at the range. They are all factory STOCK w/24'' barrels. Bolt guns, 1 in 14'' Twist. Varmint and sporter weight contours.
Thanks.

Lapua brass, 20.3 grains of IMR 4198, CCI 400, and jumping the 50 grain Speer TNT .015" gets me 3175 fps in a 14" twist/24" tube. YMWPV (Your Mileage Will Probably Vary) and approach cautiously, this is close to maximum in my 70's vintage 700...

IT ITS TIME 222 REM LIKED THE LOADS MENTIONED ABOVE, BUT POWDER MY GUN 40X OLD ONE HV BARREL FACTORY HAND DOWN VT 133 WITH 52 GR BERGERS. HAVE COUPLE IN .080" LOT IN THE 1.00 T0 .200"

Yeah 50-52gr bullet and 20.5-21.5gr 4198. 21.5 is pretty hot. Say 20.7 and a 50gr v max. Be cautious of the Hornady 53gr v max as it might not stabalize in your 14 twist
I have not had a 222 for 20 odd years so it's possible that the burn rate was adjusted I used that load for countless years velocity was around 3200 to 3230 from memory I used to be able to load PMC brass close to 20 times before binning it
This was in a cz527

I use 40 gr Nosler BT and Hornady V-Max in my 222, there is no practical difference in accuracy and they are more devastating than the slower 50 gr bullets. Powder - there are so many that work well in the 222 that use what you have or can get a good supply of.
Hint - go the JBM ballistics and do the drop/drift and energy of the 40 gr at near max velocity, it is an eye-opener. I went to them years ago - for PD shooting it was the best thing I ever did.

I have several 222s, one of the best attributes about the mighty 222 is their tendency to shoot small with a variety of loads.. I always start with H4198 or IMR 4198, lots of IMR 4198 is in stock right now. There’s many powders that do a good job though, H322, IMR8208, N133, H335, and more. I tend to shoot 50-52 grain bullets in mine.

Funny you started this thread. I’ve been toying with the idea of trying one load and seeing how it groups in the rifles, just for fun. I think it would be a fun endeavor just to show the accuracy potential of the little round. It’s seems to be making a comeback of sorts. Let us know how it goes,

I had a Vintage Rem. 700 varmint Spl. made in the early 70's that shot H-335 and 52 gr. sierra's
24.0 Rem. 7.5 primers 3/8" and smaller groups.

have used IMR 4198 for years. Recently switched to H 322 for flow characteristics The went to T 32 because of availability. They all shoot really well.
I have had a bunch of .222s over the years but only a standard 722 now the 222 is one of the most forgiving. Mike Walkers' favorite was IMR 4895 and a 50 grn bullet

Stick powders: 4198 from electronic scale /measure

Ball powder : H322 and V133 thrown from a good measure

For PD, either 50 Gr TNT (cheap and accurate) or 40 gr VMAX

Amount of powder depends on your primer and load data from a good source.

try .005 to .015 off lands, for average of 5 guns.

FL size and trim.

I have one 222. After reading a fair bit and tinkering with mine very little, I believe you will have a hard time finding a bad load. Bullet length with your twist should be considered.

Others mentioned the 50gr TNT. That was also a very accurate and empathetic eradicator. Pretty much any 50gr bullet I've tried would shoot .5" out of the 3x factory 222s I've owned just using 4198.
