4th of July - An alternative outcome!

Here is a thing! This is meant as a tongue in cheek comment, so do not go into 'lock and load' mode ok men!
Supposing that 'you' the Colonials had lost the War of Independence to 'us' British, then would America have turned out differently! And if so, then how? Would there be any positives, or negatives?
Ok I have just lit the touchpaper and ready for incoming!
Good shooting to All

I'm not smart enough to calculate the possible differences.
I am a member of a political forum and for the first year I've noticed members of all political persuasions wondering whats left to celebrate.
We won our liberty once but it seems to have slipped away. Nobody's fault but our own.

Very good answer jo191145. To us outsiders it does seem that your liberties that your forefathers fought hard for (defeating the British) seems to be eroding albeit slowly, which is such a shame as we in the UK (or I am at least) are very jealous of your liberties relating to firearm ownership. Keep the struggle going men!
Best wishes, Les

I reckon there would still be slavery, and the present eastern seaboard would look a lot like Canada. There would be no United States west of the Mississippi river, that would be Mexico, and Mexico would be the most powerful country on the continent.

With Englands most lucrative colony still intact (U.S.A.) It may have been to strong to allow the conditions that started WW1 and eventually WW2 to fester at all. The geopolitical ramifications are mind boggling. Its just a shame that a mix of perceived class warfare, personal responsibility, and a general lack of self respect will be our downfall.

Would the colonies have been 50 states strong and would a repressed colony been that productive? WW2 outcome with Japan going strong? What would be the state of the world as we know it without the United States?

There were a lot of forks in the road before and after that fateful decision. We are just darn lucky are fore fathers made the RIGHT one. It's up to us to teach our children to think and make their own decisions based on more than what the government teaches them in school. Question Authority. Respect is something you earn, it is not a position, or appointment, or inherited.

I heard on the radio today that the Washington Post published an editorial making the point that the country and the world would be a better place if we would have lost the Revolutionary War and remained a British colony. As a casual student of history, I am continually amazed the the founding fathers had the kahonies to do what they did. They risked everything, and some lost everything, pursuing the idea that we deserved to be a free nation.

How many of us today would be willing to stand for what we believe in to that extreme?

Second, I believe there was help winning our freedom, and it wasn't from the French. This grand experiment called liberty is ours to lose.

I just love hearing about the battles. The first "jungle warfare" was created by us in the appalachian mountains. We killed something crazy like 50 brits to 1 of our men
