.473 AR-15 bolt ?

Anyone running an AR with a 308 bolt face?
If so how's it working for you?
Who is manufacturing them?

I'm thinking of a 6.5br in an AR platform.
I need one like another hole in the head just wanting one

I had researched this idea a few years ago. Started reading about issues with too much material being removed from the bolt and dropped the idea.

There are a couple of other 6mm options right now (i.e. 6mmAR).

I'm starting a 6.5 grendel build myself but I am curious to see where this goes.

pretty sure these guys were making them. They have a different extension design as well. I will have to check my emails. I cant recall for sure who it was though. It will be a call in item though. Matt

I know some guys use a 458 socom bolt.
I had heard someone was making a hardened bolt purpose built for the .473 but I can't remember or find it web crawling

These guys have an AR-15 bolt that is used for their .375 Reaper. (basically a 375 blackout using a .308 case)

I had read about them and been to the site. Everything says out of stock. Interesting stuff tho for sure. I like anything based on the 308 or 223 easy and plentiful brass.

The AR-15 platform is not amenable to a .473" bolt face cartridge on multiple levels. People have fiddled and fiddled, trying to do it for decades but no one has ever gotten all the "bugs" worked out to the point it really needs to be for a full 100% reliable feeding and function with true and consistent accuracy. Some have got things going somewhat with various set ups, but most of them fall short for one reason or another (either feeding, function, or accuracy, or a combination of them).

With the bigger cartridge capacity, bigger forces on the platform and an aluminum push pin upper and lower set up, consistent accuracy is usually what suffers most. Now if that's not an issue (i.e. like if you can consistently hit a small pie plate at 100 yards is good enough) then you might be satisfied to make a go of it.

AR performance is the place to get them. Harrison may be doing another run of 6.5 mm br barrels this year. I have one of his 6mm br barrels and it runs like a top.

I went to his web site last night after another guy mentioned them.
That looks like what I'm after. A 6.5 BRX in an AR 15 platform would be awesome

AR-10? In a nut shell, TOO darn heavy. AR Performance is a good place to take a look at some options out there. Really nice barrels and bolts but they don't stay in stock long.

What is the website for Harrison with the 6BR and 6.5BR AR-15 conversions? Thanks

I agree the AR 10 is just to heavy for me to tote around to deer and hog hunt just looking for great terminal power to 200 yards.
I have a 7.62x40wt. I may not find anything a lot better. A 30BRX in the 15 platform would be one of my choices along with the 6.5 BRX

You can do a lot of interesting things on the 6.5 Grendel platform. The bolts and mags are already out there. The platform is a limiting factor. You can't just load up any case in the AR.

I have a 30 Major AR. It's great on coyote. We do t have a rifle deer season in Ohio, so I haven't shot a deer with it.

I use the Speer 125 gr TNT on varmints. It is very violent. Mike has told me that the Nosler 125 gr Ballistic Tip holds together good at that velocity. I've yet to try them myself.

I'm loading 28.5 gr of H4198. It's about 2600 FPS. Shoots nice.

Not a .473 bolt but I have an AR-15 upper in 6.5-243wssm it is a wicked killer on eastern coyotes with over 30 confirmed kills. :) It will shot about anything I have tried into 1 moa and feeds well with bullets up to about 120 grains.......I have a very good load with it with berger 130gr VLD but they have to be single loaded. 85 grain sierra FBHP bullets shoot pretty consistantly into .75 MOA
