45 ACP Revolver Project

Years ago, I put together a short barrel 45 ACP/Auto rim revolver using various parts, mostly Model 25 parts. It has a 3 inch barrel.
I decided a while back to do something with it, mainly install a longer barrel.

I got a 45 caliber 1-16 twist blank from Shilen. I will thread it to fit, crown it to 6 1/2 inches in length, slab the sides, 293B5691-330D-499F-9C3F-2D67BA603D89.jpegimage.jpgmount the extractor rod lock, and front sight.

Just something to play with.

Love moon clips are the best.
Have a 610 and 625.
Like the looks of yours with the short barrel personally.
Smiths are great.

I got the barrel mounted, cut away for the ejector rod.

I still have to machine and mount the front sight, plus machine and mount the ejector rod support.

I might do some more contouring on the barrel, I really don’t like the way it looks

Looking good. I love the idea of iron sights. How about a short lug maybe aluminum. To cover the extractor rod. So many memories coming back. Thank you Jackie for posting.

Nice project gun,bet it's a winner when done. Shooting cast out of it?

Really been concentrating on getting all my auto/bike rides in order here, which is coming along nicely. Once they're all "race ready" am going back to some old fashioned pistol smithing. So enjoying your project that much more..... chomping at the bit.

Thanks for sharing.

I have always been a fan of hard cast Kieth style semi wad cutters, but for now I have around 400 hard cast 225 grn round nose.
I have around 200 auto rim cases as from years back. I will have to get some half moon clips for ACP. I have a bunch, but can’t find them.

Did a similar project years ago in the late 60's with a 1917 Smith and replaced the barrel with a 1950 Army Match. Same thread fit it up well worth the work, back then we did some wild stuff like rifle primers to load heavier. I really like the half moon clips.... Nice work Jackie....... jim

I pretty much got all the mechanical work done, the pistol will shoot like it is.

I have some cosmetic things to do, polish off some sharp edges, do a little contouring. I think I will shoot it first though.

Mounting the ejector rod support was a chore. I machined it from a 5/8 Stainless Steel bolt. Making sure it all lined up took a little thinking, but it came out great.

here are some pictures.

That's better, lol. I wasn't doubting your machining chops, but I figure if Remington can screw up the threads in a Marlin, S&W wasn't necessarily immune...

Great looking project! I really enjoy shooting .45 ACP in 25's and 625's. Your barrel profile is reminiscent of a Powers Winmaster.

Jackie, Nice work. I like the profile. Bob Day in San Antonio did his ejector rod supports like your method. He made a separate unit with spring and a plunger like yours that screwed to the bottom of the barrel. I think I have a spare around here somewhere.
I know it will shoot well
