40x stocks

Wondering why anyone out there that builds rifle stocks does not duplicate the 40X Rem stock. I looked for a used stock to refinish, but everything out there is beat up so bad. Would like to find one with decent wood or would purchase a duplicated one , but I am not aware of it. I just like the old school look. I was lucky last year and found one from a gentleman on this forum from Cali that he redone. Not super figured, but he refinished it to perfection and a super guy to deal with. JoshB has a wonderful post and he is talented. I have reached out to him.

They exist (originals) I bought two, a 40xb complete with hardware and hand stop for $100, and a 40xbr needing paint and bondo for $40. Keep looking around, and often.

I can’t say I know all the differences in the 40x stocks but I bought one cheap from sarco, was like 50$ to my door. I knocked all the old finish off re shaped it to my liking and inletted it for dbm bottom metal. Turned into a pretty nice little varminter.

That stock turned out very nice.

Numrich has the 40X rimfire, you didn't specify which model..

Appears that they are out of them. Numrich bought a bunch of them from CMP when they surplused out all the 40X rimfires. You can still find them on auction sites from private individuals, but they are gradually disappearing, have to keep an eye open and be choosy if you want a nice one. Most finish up pretty nice if you don't buy something cut off or otherwise altered. 40X stocks were chosen from pretty straight grain wood, so as not to warp when in service. So looking for something with figure is not really very probable; though I have seen a few that had some figure in the butt where warping is not an issue. If you want one with original whiteline pad, better buy one with a pad on it, since the pads are no longer available new.

How much are 40x stocks worth if a guy was to have 5 or 6 in very good shape laying around with the white line pads and all?
From what I have seen, it depends on what the market will bear, or how nice a seller may chose to be. I have one with the vertical bolt handle cut and forend tensioning screws for an early 22RF which could be either desirable or near worthless, depending who is looking.

I bought a pallet of them 25 plus years ago , found the receipt recently . $10 apiece , excellent condition. Still have 10-12 . I use to do gun shows and would sell on table $25 -40 depending on figure . All had whiteline butt . I do need to find them again . Somewhere in tthe hoarders ( me) piles of inventory, as I call it .

Check out Carl Bernosky Shooting Sports, he may be able to make you one.

Here's one of the 40x rimfire from Numrich. I paid like 60 bucks for it, and then thirty or forty more for bottom metal and the sling rail. One of the best deals I've ever come across. It was in very good condition, and cleaned up easily. Fit my 700 action so well that I've never bothered to bed the thing.

It's been a few years since I got this one, and I don't know if they're still gettable or not. jd
