Instead of making an insert would it not be better to contour a blank to look like the thinner barrel with a big chamber end to fit the 700 style threads? I my underdeveloped mind it seem like the extra set of threads would be a potential for bad fit???

The outer diameter changes the inner diameter. You keep it as straight as possible like turning the tenon down very little to thread it. Contoured barrels dont cut it in rimfire and a 1 1/16” straight barrel is too heavy so you make it .850 or .875 or whatever. Helps on tuner performance too

That make perfect sense, now that you have explained it. Does that mean you want to use a button rifled barrel? Thank you for explaining it, i love it when you guys do that

Man, wish someone would have told me that years ago. Almost every rimfire I own has a contoured barrel.

Who can i get to do a calfee type barrel fitting to my 40x with the reducer bushing insert and straight barrel? What is the lead time these days? If it works out ill be needing 2 done back to back

I got some bushings from stiller to do just that.

Chet Amick of Maryland passed on in 2008, he was as good as Calfee, I have one of his excellent 40x rifles with the bushing reducer and light Hart barrel, shoots lights out even to this day, if you can find one of his or a Calfee rifle consider yourself extremely fortunate.
