4.40 Target Action Stock Fit Question

I was wondering if a older 4.40 2 screw with internal mag will fit in a 3 screw 4.40 target action hs precision stock simply by not using the middle screw. I told him I would ask on the board. I don't think it will because it has a blind mag...which I find odd to have a 4.40 with blind magazine mine are 4.25.......... He needs a good stock we can't find one

Yes it will fit, as far as the bolt spacing and not using the middle screw.

As far as the factory blind mag, his 4.4 action is a centerfeed so the magazine mounts in the stock, so he can simply use the action in the HS stock as a single shot by installing a Sharpshooter Supply single shot follower.
*since the stock is single shot you should round the edges of the SSS follower to match the contour of the action so it sits in the stock correctly. That step isn’t needed on stocks with a mag well.

As for decent over the counter stocks, the HS precision and the B&C varmint/tactical(model 2997) are great stocks for that action. Both have varmint barrel channels and full aluminum bedding blocks. The B&C has a mag well opening so your buddies magazine will fit right in, or you could still use the single shot follower.

As far as your 4.25” action, that is a pre 2004 production staggerfeed action and the magazine mounts to the action. Whole different system and different set of fitting issues in a single shot stock. Your buddy has the better of the two if he wants to use that HS stock.
