375 ruger for long range ?

Mike
I did a lot of work with Accuracy International and Hornady for the Precision Sniper Rifle 1 submission in 338 & 300. Pre 300 PRC days. Little did I know where that would lead us.
I have a reamer and 338-300R bushing dies if you're interested.
Thank you Dave. I am interested. Shoot me a message.

This is the first 100 yard ladder I fired with RL16 in my 338-375R. I was just checking for speeds back when RL16 first came out. This rifle has always produced very good accuracy at all ranges.

Since this time, I have restocked the rifle with a heavier stock, has a new muzzle brake, loads now use ADG brass instead of Hornady, and it wears a Trijicon 4-24x50 scope. Shoots even better now.

I think if you want something from the 375 Ruger case with more energy than a 300 PRC and good available high BC bullets for long range, then 338 cal is a better option.

I know this isn't conducive of what a Lapua case can actually do, but "Factory" 338 Lapua ammo using a 250gr bullet clocks in at around 2850 fps. So when you consider my 338-375 Ruger can push a 250gr bullet up over 3,000 fps, that's 150 fps faster than 338 Lapua ammo. Pretty impressive and very effective at long range.

Left: Virgin ADG 300 PRC brass necked up to 338 cal.
Right: My 338-375 Ruger fireformed from
the same 300 prc brass.

@Ledd Slinger , your expansion of the shoulder and movement of the neck base (looks like 30-50 mil), what did you do to keep the stretch from happening at the case head?

Nothing. Just fire form with normal loads. Never had any issues with brass other than hornady primer pockets when I push speeds. ADG brass will reach max pressure and still have good pockets.

I’ve had a lot of improved and “Dasher” type rounds that move the shoulder forward over the years. Never an issue with brass at the head.

Photo of my 300 NMI next to virgin brass and also my 6mm AR T40 next to virgin ppc brass and virgin 6.5 Grendel with false shoulder formed into it. So I do put a false shoulder on the T40 case before forming for the reason you are concerned about. But there’s no need for that on my 338-375R
